X-Men ’97 was a treat for every Marvel fan, right from episode 1 of the show we have the nostalgic journey. But as the show progressed, the intensity level rose to the horizon. X-Men ’97 gave us what we have been waiting for decades. It is not just a visual treat, the show also touches upon the crux of the nostalgia. Continuing from where the X-Men Animated Series has ended, the show immediately claimed a huge fanbase.

As the show is ending, the former showrunner gave fans some hint of what the final episodes entail. Inherently, the series brought back the classic humans’ disregard for the mutants. The very tension between humans and mutants was further fuelled after the destruction of Genosha. “It even speaks to what Logan warned Jean about in Ep 5: that the past will drag you under if you’re not careful,” Beau DeMayo wrote on X responding to a fan.

The former showrunner further revealed that the makers had no intention to change the design language. “Nah, I’ve said it before, our job was to shepherd the characters, not “put our mark” on them for the sake of ego,” he added.

Reviving The Classical Traits

X-Men ’97 is an acute example of comic book accuracy and reviving the classical traits from the original series. The showrunner and Marvel executives including Kevin Feige were in agreement to give fans a sense of nostalgia. It was Feige’s idea to bring back the old cast for the latest Disney+ show. DeMayo has also been insistent on that.

“It’s what Storm said. All this change it’s all the same. Also what Xavier said. We’ve been here before. It’s a visual representation of how history continues to repeat itself, even when we are in the seemingly unpredictable tide of its chaos,” he wrote on X.

Adding further, the showrunner said, “For all the talk of change and progress, the X-Men are back in a classic X-Men scenario: humans wanting to kill mutants has them fighting Magneto. Just like old times. Just like The Final Decision in the OG series. #XMen97.”

SUGGESTED: Why X-Men ’97’s Gambit Getting More Attention Than Other Characters?

X-Men ’97 also canonized Avengers superheroes including Captain America, Spider-Man, and Hulk as the show is expected to be the stepping stone to the grand universe that might include the X-Men characters. Deadpool & Wolverine or previously Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness have done the deed. Regardless, X-Men ’97 is a must-watch for every Marvel fan, the show is visually stunning containing astonishing action sequences— you would cheer the flying Logan slashing Sentinels in Episode 8.
