In the first half of 2024, we have seen Netflix releasing some really worth watching movies. Got to watch A Family Affair, Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F and many more. But which movie viewers watched most so far this year on the streamer? It’s one Millie Bobby Brown movie.
Millie Bobby Brown’s Damsel Tops The Most Viewed Film List In The First Half of 2024 on Netflix
Millie Bobby Brown’s action-fantasy film, Damsel, has not only made a mark but exceeded all expectations by becoming the most-watched Netflix movie of 2024. While its initial success was well-known, the latest data from Netflix’s Engagement Report reveals that the film attracted an even larger audience than previously thought.
Netflix’s semi-annual Engagement Report, covering the period from January to June 2024, offered comprehensive insights into the streaming choices of its global audience. Though Netflix releases weekly updates on its most-watched titles, these are limited to the first 91 days of a film’s availability. However, Damsel not only thrived during that initial period but continued to draw viewers long after its debut.
At the close of its first 91 days, Damsel had amassed an impressive 138 million views. The film’s appeal, however, did not diminish after this period. By the end of June 2024, Damsel reached 143.8 million views, with viewers having spent a total of 263.7 million hours watching it. The continued success of Damsel can be attributed to its gripping storyline and Brown’s magnetic performance. As the year progresses, these numbers are expected to increase.
There were three other Netflix original movies in the top five most-watched movies: Lift starring Kevin Hart (129.4 million views), Society of the Snow (103.8 million views) and Under Paris (84.7 million views).
The massive success of Damsel set a high bar, but other films also made their mark during the first half of 2024. According to Netflix, movies such as Mother of the Bride and Atlas followed closely behind with 77.7 million and 77.1 million views, respectively. Mother of the Bride also boasted 116.5 million total hours viewed, while Atlas accounted for a staggering 154.2 million hours. The impressive viewership stats continue with movies like Minions (72.7 million views and 110.2 million hours) and Irish Wish (72.1 million views and 113 million hours). Despite not being produced or distributed by Netflix globally, animated hits like The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Minions, and Boss Baby (63.6 million views and 103.8 million hours) still managed to secure places in the top 10 most-watched list, demonstrating the enduring appeal of family-oriented content.
Top 10 TV Show
The third season of the popular romantic drama series, Bridgerton, continued to amaze audiences worldwide. It was the second most-watched show on Netflix, amassing a staggering 91.9 million views and a total of 733.8 million hours watched. This success also boosted the popularity of the show’s previous seasons, with the first and second seasons ranking among the most-watched TV titles of the first half of 2024.
Another standout performer was the Emmy-winning series, Baby Reindeer, which secured the third spot on the list with 87.6 million views. Following closely behind were The Gentlemen and Avatar: The Last Airbender.
This engagement report was dominated by non-American projects. This half’s top ten biggest shows included four from the United Kingdom: Fool Me Once, in first place.
Rounding out the top 10 most-watched TV shows were Griselda, American Nightmare, 3 Body Problem, Berlin, and One Day. These series collectively showcased a diverse range of genres and themes, demonstrating the enduring appeal of television content across various audiences.
Netflix calculates views by dividing total hours viewed divided by runtime. The full report, which spans Netflix’s entire catalog, can be viewed here.
