Todd Phillips’ Joker: Folie à Deux is all set to hit the theaters with big expectations for the movie to break out like the first installment starring Joaquin Phoenix. The sequel added Lady Gaga alongside Phoenix as his romantic interest Harleen “Lee” Quinzel, a new version of the iconic DC character, Harley Quinn in the upcoming movie. While fans are all hyped for the movie, director Todd Phillips has recently spilled the beans about the potential solo movie for Lady Gaga’s Harley Quinn.
Will There Be Lady Gaga’s Solo Harley Quinn Movie In DC?
Lady Gaga debuts DC with her character Harleen “Lee” Quinzel. Todd Phillips’ first Joker movie was an astounding hit surpassing the $1 billion milestone at the box office while earning decent critical appreciation. If the second installment hits big, there will be more room to explore more characters appearing in Joker: Folie à Deux which begs the question, will there be a solo movie for Lady Gaga’s Harley Quinn Movie In DC?
At the Hollywood premiere of Joker: Folie à Deux, Variety asked Phillips the same burning question as the character has been in the same intense hype as Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker. “For me, I’ve always thought that these two movies kind of exist as their own thing,” Phillips responded adding, “And, no. I know you’re trying to get the next thing, but I don’t want to go into that.”

While Phillips’ answer is not what fans would have wanted, Lawrence Sher, the cinematographer of both Joker films did not reject the idea straight away. “Wow. That’s a Warner Bros. question, yeah, you’ve got to ask them,” the cinematographer said but refused to spill the beans on if the movie was already nodded for development, “I couldn’t say, even if it was!” Right now, it is unclear if Phillips would return to director’s chair to helm the potential movie as he is seemingly not interested in going in there.
Lady Gaga Says Playing Harley Quinn Was Completely Freeing
Lady Gaga has a few movies to her credit including A Star is Born for which she claimed an Oscar nomination. The iconic singer’s cinematic journey is filled with rich characters she portrayed over the years but the actor recently shared that playing Harley Quinn was different, there is something “completely freeing” about it.
“There was something like completely freeing about playing this character because I was able to put some things of myself in her that maybe I’ve always been embarrassed of or things that are really private,” Gaga told in an interview with Good Morning America.
The actor went on to add, “When I first saw the film, I was, I remember thinking, ‘Oh like that’s in there, you know? Like that part of me, that I want no one to know about. And I think part of that was like she’s kind of in some in some moments like she’s kind of so uncomfortable she’s like on the edge. There’s definitely been times in my life where I felt that way.”
Undoubtedly, the character has been very close to Gaga, evidence of which is clearly reflected as she dropped a Joker-themed album, Harlequin ahead of the release of the movie.
Joker: Folie à Deux is slated for international release on October 2, with a US release slated for October 4.
