Colin Farrell has already made his case as one of the prominent actors in the industry working today. The actor has done several promising roles in his career which includes his recently Oscar-nominated role in The Banshees of Inisherin. While the actor won praise from fans and critics for playing Penguin in Matt Reeves’ The Batman, he is set to reprise the role in his solo DC show set in Batman Epic Crime Saga. However, due to his health concerns, the actor refused to go for a natural physical transformation.
Colin Farrell Refused Physical Transformation In The Penguin
Physical transformation is not a child’s play, although many actors have gone through the toughest part of acting, they often face certain complications. Colin Farrell who is set to reprise his acclaimed role of Gotham Kingpin Penguin recently shared with Josh Horowitz that he opted out of taking the road for natural transformation.
“Me and Matt had talked about and talked about physically what the character’s stature would be and I had been quite big for the North Water. And I didn’t want to naturally go big again because I had a few little health things as a result of the North Water and I was just like this acting thing ain’t this important you know I leave it to other actors to go that much up and down and God bless them and I wish them good health but for me, I was just like the North Water, I think that’s the last time I’ll go up that much right so we decided on you know fat suit girth suit,” Farrell said.
For context, Farrell gained a few pounds for Andrew Haigh-created The North Water. The miniseries is based on Ian McGuire’s 2016 novel of the same name. As the actor revealed, he has faced a few health complications for the weight gain for which his character in the Max show had to be a girth suit. Still, the makeup team had done a tremendous job as Farrell is almost unrecognizable in the show.
Colin Farrell Felt Liberating For Not Going For Intense Physical Transformation
Farrell further shared that he would take only “49% of the credit” for his role in The Batman. But hiding his real face behind the mask was not restricting his prowess at all, he was still at his A-game delivering what he does best. While it may seem that “it would you would feel constricted, it was 100% the opposite,” Farrell said. “It was so damn liberating it was so liberating and I felt so free and I felt like and I may be proven wrong I felt like it was impossible to be too big,” he continued.

Farrell further praised the creator of the suit, “I had such might get such permission to just explore, you know, behaviors by b the brilliance of the work that he did, Mike Marino. And I mean, if there’s a better makeup that year, I don’t be thinking about Oscars, but he should, just they should just give him the, you know, if there’s a better makeup it’s extraordinary what he did extraordinary”
