Warning: This article includes major spoilers from Euphoria Season 3 Episode 7.
The latest episode of Euphoria delivered one of the series’ most disturbing moments yet, leaving viewers horrified by Nate Jacobs’ brutal fate. Season 3 Episode 7 pushed the HBO drama deeper into psychological terror as Jacob Elordi’s character found himself trapped inside a coffin with a rattlesnake slithering nearby. The sequence instantly became one of the most talked-about scenes of the season, especially after behind-the-scenes details revealed how physically intense the filming process actually was.
Following the episode, Jacob Elordi and creator Sam Levinson opened up about shooting the nightmare sequence. From filming inside a sealed coffin to working around real rattlesnakes in the California desert, the production turned the scene into a terrifying blend of horror and realism. The cast and crew wanted the audience to feel uncomfortable, trapped, and anxious from beginning to end.
How Did Jacob Elordi Film Death Scene With Snake In Euphoria Season 3 Episode 7?

Jacob Elordi described the filming experience as physically claustrophobic but strangely calm at the same time. The actor revealed that large parts of the sequence required him to remain locked inside a coffin while the crew sealed the lid above him.
“My shoulders were touching the side and they couldn’t move my arms. Then they would drill the lid on it and it would get dark,” Elordi explained after the episode aired. “It was really nice, actually. It was quite peaceful in there.”
The production team reportedly monitored oxygen levels closely while filming the confined scenes. Crew members praised Elordi for staying composed during long stretches inside the cramped set piece.
The snake scenes created another level of tension. According to Elordi, real rattlesnakes were used during filming, although the production also brought in a boa constrictor fitted with a fake rattler tail for close-contact shots.
“Snakes were rattling, which was really alarming when you are locked in a box,” Elordi admitted.
Despite the frightening setup, the actor surprisingly described the boa constrictor as calm and affectionate. “He was super cute. He was really cuddly. So he kind of sidled up next to me and it was nice,” he said. “But he was really sleepy. He was a sleepy snake.”
The realism of the sequence became even more unsettling after Levinson revealed the dangers involved while shooting in remote desert locations. The animal wranglers reportedly warned the team that a rattlesnake bite could become fatal before reaching a hospital nearby.
Jacob Elordi On Playing Nate In Euphoria

Elordi has portrayed Nate Jacobs since Euphoria premiered in 2019, turning the character into one of television’s most divisive figures. Nate’s violent behaviour, emotional manipulation, and spiralling self-destruction made him both feared and fascinating throughout the series.
Following Episode 7, Elordi reflected emotionally on saying goodbye to the role. “That was a cool way to go. Nate was someone who has made so many mistakes and made so many dark choices,” he shared. “It’s cool to see it all come to what it’s come to.”
The actor also called the experience bittersweet because of how closely tied the series became to his personal and professional life.
“This show is a massive part of not just my career but my life,” Elordi said. “It’s been amazing and I’m so proud of being a part of this.”
Earlier interviews hinted that Season 3 would present a different side of Nate. Elordi previously teased that viewers might see the character becoming softer or more human. Instead, the season slowly dismantled him through debt, fear, and violence before delivering one final horrific moment.
Sam Levinson On Nate’s Death In Season 3 Episode 7

Sam Levinson approached Nate’s final storyline with the intention of making viewers deeply uncomfortable. The creator explained that he understood audiences wanted justice for Nate after years of toxic behaviour, though he wanted the punishment to feel emotionally complicated rather than satisfying.
“There’s this kind of funny thing where I know what the audience wants in terms of justice or karma,” Levinson explained. “How can I give them what they want, but make it so horrific and anxiety-inducing that by the time it happens, the audience isn’t so sure they wanted it?”
Levinson also revealed that the rattlesnake sequence developed from an earlier idea involving suffocation inside a buried coffin. The concept later evolved into a full horror-inspired set piece influenced by classic thrillers and Western films.
When discussing the season’s larger themes, Levinson described Season 3 as a story about consequences, faith, ambition, and survival. Nate’s storyline embodied that darker vision completely. His downfall became less about revenge and more about isolation, fear, and the collapse of control.
By the end of Episode 7, Euphoria had transformed from teen drama into outright psychological horror, leaving fans shaken before the finale even begins.
