Netflix has a few action movie releases on the slates and these movies might just be the next big things on the platform inviting millions of viewers. Netflix has had an astounding success rate with action original releases in the past and now the streamer has slated a series of action movie releases creating big splashes. Here are seven Netflix action movies worth the hype.

7. Atlas

After appearing in Netflix’s The Mother, Jennifer Lopez is all set to launch into orbit in the upcoming space action adventure Atlas. In the Leo Sardarian and Aron Eli Coleite scribed movie Lopez will play Atlas Shepherd— a brilliant but misanthropic data analyst. Altas is far from trusting artificial intelligence who joins “a mission to capture a renegade robot with whom she shares a mysterious past,” the logline of the movie reads. However, her adventure will not be smooth as her plans might go awry and her only hope of saving the future of humanity from AI is to trust it. Rampage director Brad Peyton helmed the sci-fi action adventure. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and Barbie star Simu Liu will join Lopez alongside Sterling K. Brown, Gregory J. Cohan, Abraham Popoola, Lana Parrilla, and Mark Strong. Altas arrives at Netflix in 2024.

6. Trigger Warning

Jessica Alba is back to the cinematic landscape. Of course, her recent appearance in Martin Owen’s tanked crime thriller Killers Anonymous was not a celebratory comeback but the actor deserves a second chance after all these years. Alba is set to star in Netflix’s Trigger Warning with acclaimed Indonesian filmmaker Mouly Surya who previously directed Marlina the Murderer in Four Acts and Fiction. Oscar-nominated Josh Olson scribed the film while Alba also joined the team as a producer alongside Thunder Road’s Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee. Alba plays a traumatized veteran who inherits her grandfather’s bar and faces a moral dilemma after learning the truth behind his untimely death. Trigger Warning is expected to hit the streamer in 2024.

5. Carry-On

Kingsman franchise and Rocketman fame Taron Egerton who recently appeared in Jon S. Baird’s Apple TV Plus mystery thriller Tetris is set to join Ozark star Jason Bateman in the upcoming Netflix action thriller Carry-On. The movie follows a young TSA agent (Egerton) as he fights to outsmart a mysterious traveler who blackmails him into letting a dangerous package slip onto a Christmas Eve flight. Jaume Collet-Serra who previously directed Liam Neeson’s action-packed Non-Stop will helm the project. Written by T.J. Fixman and Michael Green the movie will also star Sofia Carson, Danielle Deadwyler, Sinqua Walls, Logan Marshall-Green, Theo Rossi, Josh Brener and Breaking Bad star Dean Norris. Carry-On will hit the streamer in 2024.

4. The Old Guard 2

Charlize Theron-starrer Gina Prince-Bythewood’s 2020 action fantasy The Old Guard on Netflix was a huge hit. The movie got the nod for the sequel of the movie. While the logline of the movie is still under wraps, Theron Is expected to return with almost all the original cast. Also, Uma Thurman and Henry Golding Are set to join the movie, however, their roles are still undisclosed. Prince-Bythewood will not return to the director’s chair this time, Victoria Mahoney will helm the upcoming project. The Old Guard 2 doesn’t have a release date as of yet but the movie is expected to hit the streamer this year.

3. Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F

Eddie Murphy’s Axel Foley is back with a sequel to Martin Brest-directed 1984 action comedy Beverly Hills Cop. Who wouldn’t be excited to see the fast-talking Detroit cop on screen again? Nearly 40 years later Murphy returned in the upcoming Netflix flick Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F. As per the official logline, Detective Axel Foley (Murphy) is back on the beat in Beverly Hills. “After his daughter Jane’s (Taylour Paige) life is threatened, she and Foley team up with a new partner (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) and old pals Billy Rosewood (Judge Reinhold) and Taggart (John Ashton) to turn up the heat and uncover a conspiracy.”

Original cast from the 1984 movie, Judge Reinhold as Billy Rosewood, and John Ashton Paul Reiser alongside Bronson Pinchot are returning to the sequel. Taylour Paige will join the movie as Axel Foley’s daughter. Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Detective Abbott and Kevin Bacon as Captain Cade Grant also join the upcoming project. Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F hits Netflix on July 3. To jog your memory, you can watch the Oscar-nominated 1984 classic on Netflix.

Mark Wahlberg’s character Mile who is a down-to-earth construction worker from Jersey suddenly finds himself in the world of super spies and secret agents after his high school ex-girlfriend Roxanne (Halle Berry) recruits him on a high-stakes US intelligence mission. The Julian Farino-directed movie has created an astounding buzz primarily for the ensemble cast. The Union features Oscar winner J.K. Simmons, alongside Jessica De Gouw, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Alice Lee, and Jackie Earle Haley. The Wahlberg and Halle Berry duo would certainly be exciting to watch when the movie lands on the streamer. The movie doesn’t have a release date as of yet.

Seth Gordon has a wide and long list of comedy movies in his resume which includes Horrible Bosses and he is back with another exciting project entitled Back in Action. The upcoming Netflix action comedy will feature Jamie Foxx and Cameron Diaz as parents with a big secret. The logline reveals that years after giving up life as CIA spies to start a family, Emily and Matt find themselves dragged back into the world of espionage when their cover is blown. Joining Foxx, Diaz is returning to the screen for the first time in 10 years but she’s back with a bang in the 2024 comedy. Alongside the duo, Kyle Chandler, Glenn Close, Andrew Scott, Jamie Demetriou, McKenna Roberts, and Rylan Jackson also joined the cast. 

Gordon also co-wrote with Brendan O’Brien. The movie has been in the buzz, not just for Diaz’s return but Foxx’s sudden collapse on set which put the actor in the hospital. Regardless, the movie has created an astounding hype and it is definitely worth the hype. Back in Action will hit Netflix later this year.
