What's Inside?
- Nicholas Galitzine transforms into He-Man in the long-awaited live-action 'Masters of the Universe' remake.
- Jared Leto, Camila Mendes and Idris Elba join the fantasy epic set across Earth and Eternia.
- Directed by Travis Knight, Masters of the Universe arrives exclusively in theatres on June 5, 2026.
More than four decades after He-Man first arrived as a Mattel action figure, Masters of the Universe is returning to cinemas with a larger, more ambitious live-action adaptation. The 2026 film places Nicholas Galitzine at the centre of the franchise as Prince Adam, the reluctant royal who transforms into He-Man to save Eternia from destruction. Directed by Travis Knight, the film blends fantasy, science fiction and nostalgia while introducing the mythology to a new generation.
The project arrives at a moment when toy-based franchises are gaining renewed momentum in Hollywood. Following the commercial success of Barbie, studios are once again investing heavily in iconic Mattel properties. Yet Masters of the Universe appears determined to stand apart from standard franchise filmmaking. Early footage points to a colourful world filled with magic swords, cosmic battles and emotional character arcs, while still embracing the strange charm that made He-Man a defining figure of 1980s pop culture.
What Is Masters of the Universe About?

The new film follows Prince Adam, the heir to Eternia, who is secretly sent to Earth as a child after Skeletor launches an attack on Castle Grayskull. Raised on Earth under the name Adam Glenn, he grows up disconnected from his true identity while carrying fragmented memories of another world. His ordinary life changes once he discovers the legendary Sword of Power and finally returns to Eternia.
Back on his home planet, Adam finds a kingdom devastated by war and controlled by the ruthless Skeletor, played by Jared Leto. To reclaim Eternia, Adam must embrace the destiny he spent years avoiding. Alongside Teela and Duncan, also known as Man-At-Arms, he begins the transformation into He-Man, the legendary warrior known as “the most powerful man in the universe”.
The film also expands the emotional side of the story. Rather than portraying Adam as an invincible hero from the beginning, the screenplay explores his insecurity, loneliness and struggle to belong. Director Travis Knight has described the character as someone balancing strength with compassion, giving the classic hero a more grounded personality beneath the armour and spectacle.
The first trailer, released earlier this year, offered fans a closer look at Eternia, Snake Mountain and Castle Grayskull while leaning heavily into the franchise’s colourful fantasy roots. In one of the trailer’s standout moments, Adam tells the people of Eternia: “I know most of you don’t remember me, but I know all of you. Even though I was stuck light-years away on Earth, I never stopped trying to get back home.”
Masters of the Universe Cast Guide

Leading the film is Nicholas Galitzine, whose physical transformation for He-Man became one of the production’s biggest talking points. The actor spent months training to build the physique required for the role. Reflecting on the demanding process, he admitted: “I think it would be insincere for me to say that it was easy.”
Camila Mendes plays Teela, captain of Eternia’s royal guard and one of Adam’s closest allies. The film positions Teela as a capable fighter with emotional depth rather than a secondary action character. Idris Elba appears as Duncan, also known as Man-At-Arms, while Morena Baccarin portrays the Sorceress of Castle Grayskull.
On the villain side, Jared Leto takes on Skeletor, joined by Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn. The supporting cast also includes Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson as Fisto and Kristen Wiig as the voice of Roboto.

Masters of the Universe Release Date

Masters of the Universe is scheduled to arrive in theatres on June 5, 2026. The film will be released through Amazon MGM Studios in the United States and Canada, while Sony Pictures Entertainment will handle international distribution.
Although streaming plans have not been officially announced, the involvement of Amazon MGM Studios makes a future release on Prime Video highly likely after the theatrical run concludes.
For longtime fans, the film carries significant expectations. Hollywood has attempted several times to revive He-Man for modern audiences, with earlier versions collapsing during development. This adaptation finally brings the franchise back to the big screen with a cast designed to appeal to both nostalgic viewers and younger audiences discovering Eternia for the first time.
