CM Punk screwed Drew McIntyre again, what does it mean for the future storyline?

Drew McIntyre’s WrestleMania 40 win was glorious until… Well, Damian Priest who held his Money in the Bank briefcase for the occasion, led to wrap the World title around his waist after McIntyre held it for a little over five minutes. The Clash at the Castle was held in McIntyre’s hometown, Glasgow, Scotland and like most fans, we almost believed McIntyre would reclaim the title from Priest and he almost did. But now the question ponders over the narrative choice, why WWE didn’t allow the Scottish superstar to win the World Heavyweight Title?

Heating Up The CM Punk Vs Drew McIntyre Storyline

Over the last decade, Drew McIntyre proved his worth to be in feuds with the top Superstars in the locker room, and that includes CM Punk. Since Punk’s return to WWE, the company never had the chance to utilize the Best in the World as he soon met with an injury that sidelined him for months while Seth Rollins vs Punk was almost inevitable. Although Punk graced fans with his appearances in any way possible, the Superstar soon developed a feud with McIntyre and it has been nothing but fun, so far.

When CM Punk was spotted in Glasgow we were almost certain that McIntyre was screwed and without much of a surprise it happened exactly what most fans criticized— robbing McIntyre of the World title, again. CM Punk’s interference in the Damian Priest vs McIntyre match, however, fuelled the Punk vs the Scottish Warrior narrative even to a grander level and WWE was perhaps more focused on the story.

Certainly, the same storyline would be possible with McIntyre using the belt to brag about it every time he holds the mic but the wounded (not physically) Warrior is more dangerous and vicious which was seen right after the match as the former WWE champion lost his cool.

CM Punk Vs Drew McIntyre Will Be Classic

Hell with the titles, CM Punk Vs Drew McIntyre will be a classic, and WWE may want no distraction from the belt. Also, Punk will seemingly work up to climb the ladder to snatch the Universal Championship belt from Cody Rhodes, potentially winning the Money in The Bank. Rhodes is already a babyface and a babyface vs babyface would not look much appealing. Punk screwing McIntyre again proves that he would go to any extent to make his case, a heel Punk could be in the card.

SUGGESTED: Dwayne Johnson Hails Drew McIntyre Alongside Fans As The Scottish Warrior Signed New WWE Deal

Certainly, heel Punk is more fun, his previous WWE tenure was the proof of his successful ‘bad guy’ period. As The Rock’s heel worked for the best, WWE might play the same trick to make Rhodes vs Punk’s potential storyline more engaging. Back to McIntyre, the feud with The Best in the World would allow Punk to have the stage to showcase what’s left in the juice tank and we all can hope Punk will not disappoint.

However, in the process, the Scottish Warrior would not diminish his prowess, he is good with the mic as we have seen recently, and also, his social media posts roasting his rivals are hilarious. WWE may book a Gunther, the 2024 King of the Ring against Priest while pushing the World Heavyweight Champion’s solo run turning him into a babyface potentially leaving Judgement Day (already been teased many times). It is hard to predict who would come out victorious in the Gunther vs Priest match but WWE knows the prowess of The King General and has given him several wins including his historic Intercontinental title reign which he ultimately lost to Sami Zayn.

As for McIntyre, he might eventually go after the World Heavyweight Title but not so soon, not before settling score with Punk anyway. Regardless, the potential storyline seems exciting albeit we all felt for McIntyre.
