Tom Holland’s ‘Spider-Man 4’ is getting decent updates as fans wanted. Recently, it was reported that Marvel Studios was looking to book Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings director Destin Daniel Cretton after franchise director Jon Watt’s departure following his competition of the trilogy. Now, an insider spilled beans on the highly discussed Runes of Kof-Ko (forget spell) — the spell that Doctor Strange had cast upon Peter Parker leading to the entire universe forgetting his identity.
New Spider-Man 4 Update Reveals Breaking Forget Spell
At the end of the third installment of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man franchise, Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange was seen casting a spell on Peter Parker which propelled (almost) the entire universe to forget his identity. The movie’s post-credit scene further revealed that Zendaya’s MJ also forgot his real identity. This begs the question of how the narrative will move forward.
Several theories have surfaced for the highly anticipated fourth Spider-Man movie some claiming the movie will entirely be street-level as the new chapter of Holland’s Spider-Man has just begun. But let’s face it, that’s not going to be the case. Insider Alex Perez has recently joined Cosmic Circus’ discord server Q&A and revealed that the movie will blend street-level narrative with a multiversal story.
“I want to take the opportunity to address this question by stating that most fans often tend to think in extremes when it comes to how a story plays out in the MCU, saying it’ll be in one category or in another when it can be in multiple categories,” Perez said. “A movie can have multiversal elements and still be a street-level story. Think of this movie like that. It’s a blend,” he added.
As for the forget spell, it “will be explored more, and eventually broken,” the insider added which makes sense considering Spidey’s potential big role in two of the upcoming Avengers movies.
Spider-Man 4 New Director May Sideline Another Marvel Project
It was certainly exciting that Marvel Studios has finally found their go-to director as they are looking to seal a deal with Destin Daniel Cretton for Spider-Man 4. The director previously helmed Simu Liu starrer Shang-Chi which has a sequel on the card with the actor returning to the movie.
Last month, the movie’s lead star Simu Liu confirmed that the sequel is still on the card and definitely happening. “A lot of it is above my pay grade, but it’s definitely happening. I’m very excited to work on it, and it’s going to be amazing. I really can’t say anything beyond that,” the actor told PTI (via Times of India).
However, Marvel Studios has not added the project to their official calendar. As for the latest report for Spider-Man 4, Cretton helming Tom Hollan’s movie may sideline the possibility of Shang Chi 2 pushing it further to the edge of uncertainty.
Additionally, Disney CEO Bob Iger’s comment on MCU slates in February this year is also concerning as Cretton’s potential move to a massive franchise like Spider-Man would justify Iger’s emphasis on reducing Marvel slates focusing a lot more on bigger franchises.
Still, the hope for Shang Chi 2 can not be discarded, in 2021, Marvel Boss Kevin Feige stated, “The early reactions to the characters and to Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings itself gives me great hope that people will want to see more of these characters,” (via CBR).
“We certainly have many ideas of where to take them and where to put them. What’s so fun, we know the movie’s working when it’s not just the title character that people ask about, but it is the co-stars or the supporting players that people ask about. And in this movie in particular, that’s heartening because we think they’re spectacular, and we think they have great potential in the future,” he added.
Now, as for Shang Chi 2, it is hard to say when the studios will officially greenlight the project but right now, it seems that they have been prioritizing Spider-Man and Avengers movies more than anything. Still, Liu’s Shang Chi could appear in Doomsday or Secret Wars even if his solo sequel awaits.
