What's Inside?
- Ryan Reynolds’ Instagram post featuring a spray-painted Avengers logo ignites fan theories about Deadpool’s surprise role in 'Avengers: Doomsday.'
- Leaked set photos reveal Falcon, US Agent, and The Thing aboard a spacecraft, hinting at massive MCU team crossovers.
- Pedro Pascal addresses rumors about Reed Richards leading the Avengers, calling speculation a “mislead” despite upcoming appearances in 'Avengers: Doomsday.'
The Marvel Cinematic Universe may have just been thrown a curveball. Early Tuesday morning (Aug. 12), Ryan Reynolds posted an image to Instagram that sent Marvel enthusiasts into overdrive. The picture showed the iconic Avengers logo, only this time with a red “A” spray-painted over it— a signature nod to his wisecracking alter ego, Deadpool. No caption. No explanation. Just pure chaos in the best way possible.
Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool’s Absence May Have Been a Setup

With Avengers: Doomsday slated for release on December 18, 2026, and Avengers: Secret Wars following in 2027, the timing couldn’t be more suspicious. Marvel recently unveiled a stacked cast for Doomsday, but notably missing from the list was Ryan Reynolds’ beloved, foul-mouthed antihero. While the studio made it clear the announcement wasn’t comprehensive, speculation about surprise appearances has been rampant. Now, this cryptic post feels like lighter fluid on an already roaring fire.

When Marvel hosted its marathon livestream to reveal Doomsday’s cast earlier this year, fans noticed several high-profile absences. Ryan Reynolds, who has publicly dismissed the idea of Deadpool becoming an Avenger, told Time, “If Deadpool becomes an Avenger or an X-Man, we’re at the end. That’s wish fulfillment, and you can’t give him that”— was among them.
Still, his history with Marvel’s marketing suggests nothing is ever straightforward. His post coincides with Doomsday’s ongoing filming in the UK, where recent leaks have already teased major crossovers. Set photos show Falcon (Danny Ramirez), US Agent (Wyatt Russell), and The Thing (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) aboard what appears to be a spacecraft. This hints at alliances between The Avengers, Thunderbolts, and The Fantastic Four.
Fans React To Ryan Reynolds’ Cryptic Instagram Post

Of course, it would make very little sense to miss out Deadpool or Wolverine in the highly anticipated Avengers movie, considering the whopping success of Deadpool & Wolverine. Now, as Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds himself teased his potential return, the hype among fans is on the horizon.

Marvel Studios Yet To Decide The Next Avengers Leader

The buzz surrounding Reynolds’ possible involvement comes as the MCU’s leadership dynamics remain in flux. Pedro Pascal, newly cast as Reed Richards in Fantastic Four, has been rumored— thanks to director Matt Shakman’s comments— to be stepping into an Avengers leadership role. Pascal, however, has played down the idea, calling it “a little bit of a mislead.”
Regardless, Marvel seems intent on uniting multiple franchises for an epic confrontation with Doctor Doom, a move that could rival the scale of Avengers: Endgame. If Deadpool does make his entrance in Doomsday, it could mark a seismic shift— not just in tone, but in the MCU’s storytelling possibilities.
For now, Reynolds remains silent, letting one cryptic image speak volumes. And if Marvel’s history of secrecy is any indication, fans may have to wait until opening night to see if the Merc with a Mouth finally joins Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.
