The Tortured Poets Department Becomes First Album to Hit 1 Billion Spotify Streams in a Single Week

Taylor Swift and breaking records- two sides of one coin. She is used to making and breaking records and that’s what she is doing with her latest studio album The Tortured Poets Department. Under the first week itself, the album of 31 songs made several records. 

The Tortured Poets Department Becomes First Album to Hit 1 Billion Spotify Streams in a Single Week

The Tortured Poets Department by Taylor Swift already became the most-streamed album in a day on Spotify. And, now in just five days of release, it broke yet another record, made by the Shake It Off hitmaker herself. 

The 14-time Grammy winner’s TTPD album and its extended Anthology edition were released on April 19 and it has broken the record for Spotify’s most-streamed in a single day with 300 million, the music platform said. The pop singer also became the most-streamed artist in a single day in Spotify history.

Now, the album has become the first to reach 1bn Spotify streams in a week. Forget a week, it just needed five days. 

On April 22, 2024, Taylor Swift's THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT became Spotify’s most-streamed album in a single week. The album has surpassed 1 Billion streams since release.

The previous milestone for most album streams in a week belonged to Swift’s last all-new release, Midnights, in October 2022. Though, Spotify did not release an exact figure about its streaming at the time, but through publicly available Spotify data at the time it can be estimated that the figure to be in the 700,000s.

Also, the new album’s first single Fortnight with Post Malone became the streamer’s most-streamed song in a single day on April 19.

About Taylor Swift’s Latest Album The Tortured Poets Department 

Taylor Swift’s new album, The Tortured Poets Department Is mostly about the themes of love and loss, heartbreak. However, there are few songs that goes without these aspects. The Lover singer made the surprise announcement that she’s releasing her eleventh studio album during the 2024 Grammy Awards. 

Swift in a social media post called Tortured Poets “an anthology of new works that reflect events, opinions and sentiments from a fleeting and fatalistic moment in time — one that was both sensational and sorrowful in equal measure.”

The album contains 31 tracks. “This period of the author’s life is now over, the chapter closed and boarded up. There is nothing to avenge, no scores to settle once wounds have healed. And upon further reflection, a good number of them turned out to be self-inflicted,” the post continued. 

“This writer is of the firm belief that our tears become holy in the form of ink on a page. Once we have spoken our saddest story, we can be free of it. And then all that’s left behind is the tortured poetry.”

Even before its release, the countdown page on Spotify broke the streaming service’s record for most pre-saves in history.
