And the Oscar for Best Actress goes to… Emma Stone was victorious with a surprising win as most critics and fans were eying the contest of elegant battle between Killers of the Flower Moon’s Lily Gladstone and Poor Things star Stone. The actor proved her prowess by winning the 2024 Oscar in the category as she claimed the Golden Statue for the second time.

Emma Stone secured a surprising win at the 2024 Oscars. The actor secured the victory after fighting hard contest with her fellow nominees including Nyad’s Annette Bening, Lily Gladstone who marveled with her astounding performance in Killers of the Flower Moon, Sandra Hüller’s Anatomy of a Fall, and Carey Mulligan from Bradley Cooper’s Maestro. “Oh, boy, this is really, this is really overwhelming,” Stone said during her acceptance speech (via Elle). “Sorry. My voice is also a little gone, whatever!” she continued.

Stone took a moment to cheer her fellow nominees, “The women on the stage, you are all incredible, and the women in this category: Sandra, Annette, Carey, Lily, I share this with you,” she continued.

“I am in awe of you, and it has been such an honor to do all of this together. I hope we get to keep doing more together. I don’t know what I’m saying.”

Certainly, the credit for Stone’s win goes to the Poor Things director Yorgos Lanthimos.

“Oh my God, I’m totally—OK, the other night I was panicking as you can kind of see—it happens a lot—that maybe something like this could happen. And Yorgos said to me, ‘Please take yourself out of it,’ and he was right, because it’s not about me… And Yorgos, thank you for the gift of a lifetime in Bella Baxter. I am forever thankful for you. Thank you for inviting all of us to be members of this team. Thank you.”

The actor also thanked the entire cast and crew of Poor Things and her family while getting emotional and thanking her daughter soon to be three years old. And most importantly, she said, “My daughter who’s gonna be three in three days and has turned our lives technicolor. I love you bigger than the whole sky, my girl. So thank you so much.”

Stone got her first Oscar win playing Mia in Damien Chazelle’s 2016 musical romance La La Land. But the actor was surprised with the second win after her fourth Academy Award nomination. “Oh God, I think I blacked out,” Stone said in a press conference (via, Variety)after winning the 2024 Oscars for Best Actress.

“Yes I was very shocked I still feel like I’m I’m uh spinning a little bit so yes it was it’s, a it’s a huge honor and I, I’m very yes I’m I’m uh very surprised”

Stone played Bella Baxter in Poor Things— an eccentric woman resurrected by a scientist in Victorian England who embarks on a journey of self-discovery. “She uh is a character that is so so important to me,” she said in the conference.

“I think the chance to play a person starting from scratch um but in a total metaphorical can’t really happen in real life way um who’s who’s gaining language and skills at a rapid pace every day and getting to sort of chart that course and realize that she was just full of joy and curiosity and uh a true love of not just the good but the challenging in life and was fascinated by all of it um that was an amazing an amazing lesson to take with me and to try to get to live in the shoes of every day.”

The 35-year-old added that she miss Bella Baxter. “I really miss playing her ever since um we wrapped filming which was a long time ago it was like two and a half years ago,” she continued. “I  miss Bella and I’m really grateful that we got to celebrate the film um tonight and over these past few months and uh yeah I just love her.” Poor Things claimed 11 nominations at the 2024 Oscars winning four including Best Makeup and Hairstyling, Production Design, and Costume Design.

Poor Things can be streamed on Hulu.
