Among all the missing faces in Deadpool & Wolverine from its previous installments, one was controversial actor and comedian T.J. Miller. While others had some other reasons for not joining the Ryan Reynolds starrer Deadpool & Wolverine, Miller cited one particular reason where he stated that he would never collaborate with Reynolds again.

The comedic landscape has often been a playground for both laughter and controversy, and T.J. Miller’s name has frequently been associated with both. His portrayal of the boisterous bartender Weasel in the Deadpool franchise brought him widespread recognition, but one revelation has cast a shadow over his involvement in the series.

During a podcast appearance on The Adam Carolla Show, Miller shared that Reynolds, while in character, made a disparaging comment towards him. “As the character, he was, like, horrifically mean to me. But to me. As if I’m Weasel,” Miller explained. Reynolds allegedly said, “You know what’s great about you, Weasel? You’re not the star, but you do just enough exposition that it’s funny, and then we can leave and get back to the real movie.”

This remark, according to Miller, was an unexpected blow. He noted that the cast and crew were left in an awkward silence following the scene’s conclusion. Miller described his reaction as one of confusion, stating, “I just kind of listened and thought it was weird, and then I got off stage because they were like, ‘Cut…?,’” indicating that even the crew was taken aback by the exchange.

Miller’s account suggests that the tension between him and Reynolds might extend beyond their characters. He speculated that the jab was not merely part of the script but a reflection of Reynolds’ personal feelings towards him. “That’s exactly why he said that,” Miller deadpanned. “Because I’m not funnier than he is at all, right? And I haven’t been in more movies than him.

This experience, coupled with other undisclosed interactions, led Miller to conclude that Reynolds disliked him on a personal level. Reflecting on the incident, Miller said, “Would I work with him again? No. I would not work with him again,” further stating, “I sorta wish him well because he’s so good at Deadpool, and I think it’s weird that he hates me.

Throughout his career, the actor-comedian has often found himself at the center of controversy. In 2017, he was accused of sexual assault by a woman, an allegation that he firmly denied. The following year, another controversy arose when a fellow actor on the set of the HBO series Silicon Valley accused him of bullying. He denied this claim as well, but the incident resulted in his departure from the show. His legal troubles did not end there; in 2018, he was arrested for allegedly making a fake bomb threat while aboard an Amtrak train. The federal charges were eventually dropped, with his past brain surgery cited as a contributing factor in the decision.

In his interview on the Carolla Show, (Via EW) the comedian discussed his views on Ryan Reynolds, particularly his performance as the Merc with a Mouth. He expressed genuine admiration for Reynolds’ comedic talent, despite perceiving him as an “insecure dude” in real life. “He’s such a good comedian that, when you cover his face, he’s so quick, he’s so funny,” it was said. “I love him as a comedian, but I think after he got super, super famous from the first Deadpool, then things kinda changed. I think he was like, ‘See? You guys see?’” These comments highlight the complex relationship and nuanced opinions he holds about Reynolds, blending respect for his professional abilities with criticism of his perceived personal insecurities.

Despite his critical comments, the actor-comedian remains open to the possibility of working with Reynolds again. He reflected on similar past experiences, mentioning how his opinion of Michael Bay evolved over time. “I’ve said that about Michael Bay, and now we’re friends, and I would work with him again,” he noted. This change of heart underscores his willingness to reconsider professional relationships. Additionally, he mentioned that Bay, too, has a specific opinion of Reynolds following their collaboration on the 2019 film 6 Underground. This acknowledgment of evolving perspectives suggests that his current stance on Reynolds could also shift in the future.

Deadpool & Wolverine is currently showing in theaters.
