Few feuds have sparked as much intrigue as the one between music executive Scooter Braun and Taylor Swift. Now, amid renewed fan speculation linking Swift’s razor-sharp lyrics in “Vigilante S**”* to Braun and his ex-wife Yael Cohen, the music mogul is setting the record straight — with a surprising dose of calm, humor, and clarity.
Scooter Braun Clears the Air on Taylor Swift’s Revenge Anthem

Taylor Swift’s Midnights album, released in October 2022, gave fans plenty to decode, especially the track “Vigilante S**.”* With lines like “She needed cold hard proof so I gave her some” and “Now she gets the house, gets the kids, gets the pride,” many were convinced Swift was throwing lyrical daggers at Braun and aligning herself with Cohen following the couple’s high-profile split.
But according to Braun, the narrative fans crafted couldn’t be further from reality.
Speaking on the Question Everything podcast, Braun dismissed the rumor outright. “No, ‘cause I talk to Yael every day,” he said, brushing off the speculation with ease. “My ex-wife is one of my best friends… we don’t even call each other ‘ex.’ That’s, like, my partner. [She’s] the mother of my children [and] that is my family for life.”
He emphasized their post-divorce bond with a personal touch, revealing he even has a tattoo that reads “same team” as a symbol of their continued unity. “It’s what we say to each other,” he added. “So, no, I never thought that it was about us, [and] she never thought it was about us.”
Rather than take offense, Braun even complimented the marketing savvy behind the fan frenzy. “Great strategy move,” he joked. “But no.”
Scooter Braun vs. Taylor Swift: A History of Masters and Misunderstandings

The assumption that Swift was referencing Braun isn’t entirely unfounded. Their public rift began in 2019, when Braun’s Ithaca Holdings purchased Big Machine Label Group, which owned the masters of Swift’s first six albums. Swift accused him of denying her the opportunity to purchase her own catalog, igniting a firestorm online and prompting her decision to re-record her early discography as “Taylor’s Version.”
“To say this is my greatest dream come true is actually being pretty reserved about it,” Swift shared in an emotional letter earlier this year, after successfully reclaiming her masters. “I can’t thank you enough for helping to reunite me with this art that I have dedicated my life to, but have never owned until now.”
Braun, for his part, has stayed largely silent throughout the feud. However, in a rare comment following Swift’s announcement, he kept things simple and classy: “I am happy for her.”
While Swift hasn’t confirmed who inspired “Vigilante S**,”* and likely never will, Braun seems unbothered. His relationship with Cohen — with whom he shares three children — appears to be strong, grounded, and unaffected by outside noise.
Where celebrity drama often spirals out of control, Braun’s response stands out for its maturity. Whether or not the song was about him, he’s made it clear: he’s moved on, and he’s on the “same team” with the people who matter.
