What's Inside?
- Amazon MGM Studios confirmed that the search for the next James Bond actor is officially underway.
- Jacob Elordi has emerged as a strong early contender to replace Daniel Craig as the next 007.
- Reportedly, Denis Villeneuve will direct the upcoming Bond film, with Steven Knight writing the screenplay.
It has been five years, give or take, since Daniel Craig’s final James Bond movie was released. The next chapter of the James Bond franchise is finally moving ahead after years of speculation, silence, and endless fan theories. Nearly five years after Daniel Craig bowed out with No Time to Die, Amazon MGM Studios has confirmed that the search for the next 007 is officially underway. The update arrives at a crucial moment for one of cinema’s most recognisable characters, especially after the studio gained creative control of the franchise earlier this year.
Fans have spent months debating who could inherit the tuxedo, the Aston Martin and Bond’s famous licence to kill. Names such as Jacob Elordi, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Henry Cavill and Callum Turner continue to dominate discussions online. At the same time, the studio is building an ambitious creative team behind the scenes, signalling that the next Bond film may mark a major turning point for the long-running series.
James Bond Casting Gets Major Update

Amazon MGM Studios recently confirmed that the casting process of the new James Bond movie has begun, ending months of uncertainty surrounding the future of the franchise. In a statement shared on social media, the studio said:
“The search for the next James Bond is underway. While we don’t plan to comment on specific details during the casting process, we’re excited to share more news with 007 fans as soon as the time is right.”

Industry reports suggest acclaimed casting director Nina Gold has joined the production to help select the next Bond actor. Gold carries enormous credibility in the entertainment world after working on Game of Thrones, The Crown and several Star Wars films. Her involvement has raised expectations around the scale and seriousness of the casting search.
One actor attracting significant attention is Jacob Elordi. Journalist Marina Hyde recently claimed on The Rest Is Entertainment podcast that “a number of people” have suggested Elordi currently sits in “poll position” for the role. Hyde said: “There’s lots of things interesting about Jacob Elordi, first of all, it’s important, women already want to sleep with him.”
She continued:
“Now, Daniel Craig was some of the best casting of all time. That was a Barbara Broccoli pick and it was a real move because a lot of people were like, ‘Sorry who? I don’t see it’.”
Richard Osman also pointed to Elordi’s age as a major advantage. “He’s 28, Jacob Elordi, so he could easily do 10 years. That’s what they really want, they want someone who is going to own this for a generation.”
When Will the New James Bond Movie Come Out?
No official release date has been announced for Bond 26, though the project is clearly gaining momentum. Amazon MGM Studios has steadily assembled its creative team throughout 2025, beginning with the major joint venture agreement involving longtime Bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson.
Studio executive Courtenay Valenti addressed the lengthy wait during CinemaCon in Las Vegas earlier this year. She said:
“Please know that we’re taking the time to do this with care and deep respect. It is the dream of a lifetime for all of us to bring audiences this next chapter, and it’s a responsibility we don’t take lightly.”
Valenti also stressed that the filmmakers are focused on protecting the franchise’s legacy rather than rushing production. With casting auditions reportedly already taking place, development appears far more advanced than many fans initially believed.
Who Directs the New James Bond Movie?

According to multiple reports, the next Bond film will be directed by Denis Villeneuve, whose recent work on the Dune films strengthened his reputation as one of Hollywood’s leading directors. His filmography also includes Blade Runner 2049, Arrival and Sicario.
Amazon MGM Studios appears determined to build a heavyweight creative team around the franchise. Producers Amy Pascal and David Heyman have joined the project, while Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight is writing the screenplay. Tanya Lapointe will serve as executive producer.
Valenti praised the group publicly, saying: “When you pair one of the most beloved franchises in history with a world-class filmmaking team, including the brilliant director Denis Villeneuve, extraordinary producers Amy Pascal and David Heyman, executive producer Tanya Lapointe, and screenwriter Steven Knight, you’re setting the stage for something that’s truly worthy of the Bond legacy.”
Who Played Iconic James Bond Previously?

The James Bond franchise has changed dramatically across six decades, though the role itself remains one of the most coveted in cinema. Sean Connery launched the series in Dr. No back in 1962 and became closely associated with the character across seven films.
Since then, Bond has been portrayed by George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig. Each actor brought a different tone to the role, from Moore’s charm to Craig’s more physical and emotionally grounded interpretation.
Craig’s era reshaped the franchise for modern audiences, especially with Casino Royale and Skyfall. His departure closed one of the most commercially successful periods in Bond history. The next actor now faces the challenge of carrying a character that continues to evolve with every generation.
