For nearly two decades, Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift have grown up in public, side by side. They met as teenagers navigating first love and early fame. Today, they are watching each other step into marriage and a steadier kind of happiness. On a recent episode of Friends Keep Secrets, Gomez reflected on that long road with warmth and disbelief. The milestones matter, but what moves her most is simpler. Through heartbreak, headlines, and hard lessons, they held on to each other.
Selena Gomez Opens Up About Friendship With Taylor Swift and Finding ‘Good Dudes’ Together

Selena Gomez appeared on the podcast hosted by her husband, Benny Blanco, alongside Lil Dicky and Kristin Batalucco. The conversation turned to perspective. Blanco asked whether she and Taylor Swift ever pause to take stock of how far they have come.
“It’s moreso that wow we survived it as best as we could because it’s literally all we talk about,” Gomez said.
The emphasis was not on fame or fortune. It was on survival. On staying grounded when everything around them felt unstable. Gomez explained that their conversations are rarely about success. Instead, they focus on the comfort of being understood.
“When we talk about it we’re not like, ‘Look at this prosperity.’ It’s moreso like actually this is so cool that you get it,” she said. “It’s absolutely unbelievable to come from 17 years of friendship, from multiple heartbreaks and love stories and fun stories in life.”
That history stretches back to 2008, when both were dating Jonas brothers and trying to make sense of young love under bright lights. The fairy tale did not last, but the friendship did. Years later, both women found lasting partners. Gomez became engaged to Blanco in December 2024. Swift followed in August 2025 with NFL star Travis Kelce.
“We both ended up fortunately being engaged around the same time and that was the coolest part,” Gomez added.
When Burd pointed out that they both “ended up with good dudes,” she did not hesitate. “I agree… I’m very lucky,” Gomez said.
Taylor Swift Wrote Dorothea for Selena Gomez

Their bond has also shaped Swift’s music. Gomez confirmed that Dorothea from the album Evermore was written about her.
“Well, ‘Dorothea’ is about me — one of her songs,” Gomez explained. “I feel like a lot of huge moments that were self-defining, from relationships to family to love to hate, [and] all of it in between. We were figuring it out because I was 15 and she was 18, and we didn’t really know what was going on. So, we’ve never seen each other any differently. So, when I listen to it, I’m so impressed [by] how it’s eloquently put.”
She also mentioned another unreleased track, “Family,” written years ago about their teenage dreams. Gomez wanted movies. Swift wanted stadiums. Both got there. The song now feels almost prophetic.
Their recent wedding season brought everything full circle. Swift attended Gomez and Blanco’s California ceremony and later shared her joy on SiriusXM.
“Not just the most beautiful bride,” Swift said. “Just like the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen.”
She added, “[I’m] just so happy, and she deserves it so much. And you only wish that for people, you know?”
Seventeen years in, their story feels less like a headline and more like something rare. Not just a love story with partners, but one between two friends who never let go.
