The third season of Euphoria has reignited fierce debate online, with much of the conversation centred on Sydney Sweeney and the increasingly extreme journey of Cassie Howard. Set five years after the characters leave high school, the new season follows Cassie as she enters the world of adult content creation after marrying Nate Jacobs, played by Jacob Elordi. What begins as a financial decision quickly spirals into one of the show’s most controversial arcs yet.
Viewers, critics, and even real-life OnlyFans creators have questioned the tone of the storyline, especially the use of fetish roleplay, graphic nudity, and political satire. Several scenes from the episode “This Little Piggy” triggered backlash across social media, while creator Sam Levinson defended the series’ exaggerated style as intentional. The debate has since expanded beyond shock value, raising larger questions about how television portrays s*x work, internet fame, and female sexuality.
Sydney Sweeney’s OF Storyline So Far

Cassie Howard’s (Sydney Sweeney) OnlyFans storyline has become the defining talking point of Euphoria Season 3. The show pushes the character into increasingly bizarre and uncomfortable territory while presenting her rapid online fame as both empowering and deeply unsettling.
Cassie joins OnlyFans after marrying Nate Jacobs
Following financial struggles in her marriage, Cassie begins creating adult content to earn money. The storyline marks a major shift for the character, who was previously portrayed as emotionally vulnerable and desperate for validation.
Episode 3 features Cassie and Nate’s wedding
The couple officially ties the knot early in the season, setting the stage for Cassie’s transformation into a public-facing online personality.
“This Little Piggy” becomes the season’s most criticised episode
The episode contains extended nudity, fetish-themed performances, and highly stylised fantasy sequences. Many viewers described the content as excessive rather than emotionally meaningful.
Cassie’s fetish content sparks backlash
The series shows her participating in roleplay scenarios involving baby costumes, dog-themed performances, and personalised fetish requests. One scene even shows Cassie considering a subscriber request to “fart into a jar” for $700 before finally reaching her breaking point.
Dream sequences intensify the surreal tone

In one bizarre fantasy scene, Cassie imagines herself as a giant woman towering over the city in a cheetah-print bodysuit. The sequence turns grotesque as buildings shatter around her while men obsess over her image online.
Graphic content becomes central to the narrative
Several scenes include topless filming sessions, ASMR-style fetish videos, toe-sucking content, and exaggerated sexual performances designed for paying subscribers.
Cassie’s fame explodes after a viral moment
Her online notoriety earns her thousands of subscribers and launches her into a media tour managed partly by Maddy Perez, played by Alexa Demie.
The press tour adds political controversy
During fictional podcasts and interviews, Cassie embraces provocative “tradwife” rhetoric. In one appearance resembling a parody of Trisha Paytas’ online content, she claims American men are treated like “second-class citizens” and makes inflammatory remarks that quickly spread online.
Throughout the season, the show frames Cassie’s success as chaotic and emotionally hollow. Levinson later explained that the harsh lighting and exaggerated imagery were meant to make her online career feel “gnarly and jarring” rather than glamorous.
OF Creator Maitland Ward Calls Out Sydney Sweeney’s Disturbing Storyline

The backlash has not come only from viewers. Real-life adult content creators have also criticised the way Euphoria portrays s*x work and online platforms.
Former actor and OnlyFans creator Maitland Ward strongly condemned the age-play scenes involving Cassie. Speaking about the controversial storyline, Ward told Variety, “In the climate we’re in, that they dressed her up as a baby to make pornographic OnlyFans content was beyond troubling.”
Ward argued that the series reinforces harmful stereotypes about s*x workers by portraying them as people willing to abandon all boundaries for money. She added, “[It] again serves to perpetuate stereotypes that s*x workers have no moral compass and that they will do anything for money.”
The criticism grew sharper when Ward accused the show of confusing consensual adult content with exploitation and trafficking narratives. “There’s always this untrue stigma that somehow s*x work is synonymous with s*x trafficking and abuse. And they just said, let’s make a joke of it,” she said. “That is so funny. I’m not laughing.”
Another creator, Megan Prescott, also questioned the accuracy of the series. Prescott argued that mainstream television rarely includes real s*x workers in the creative process, leading to distorted portrayals shaped more by fantasy than reality.
The criticism gained additional attention after reports highlighted that certain roleplay scenarios shown in the series would likely violate OnlyFans’ own acceptable use policies. That detail fuelled complaints that the show prioritised shock value over authenticity.
What Happens To Sydney Sweeney In ‘This Little Piggy’ Episode

“This Little Piggy” stands as the most talked-about episode of the season because it pushes Cassie’s storyline to its emotional and visual extremes.
The episode opens with a surreal dream in which Cassie imagines herself becoming an unstoppable online sensation. Dressed in a revealing bodysuit, she grows to gigantic proportions while people flee in panic below her. The imagery presents fame as monstrous rather than glamorous.
Outside the dream sequence, the episode becomes even more explicit. Cassie films fetish videos for subscribers, performs intimate ASMR content, and continues taking increasingly degrading requests from paying fans. Her exhaustion becomes more obvious as the episode progresses, even while her subscriber numbers continue climbing.

At the same time, her media appearances reveal how disconnected she has become from reality. During one podcast exchange, Cassie doubles down on controversial views about gender roles and masculinity. The clips quickly go viral inside the show’s universe, turning her into both a celebrity and a target.
Maddy eventually points out the twisted nature of Cassie’s success with one cutting observation: “You know what’s funny? The angrier these idiots get, the more money you make.”
That line ultimately captures the central tension of Season 3. Cassie’s growing fame thrives on outrage, humiliation, and spectacle, leaving audiences divided over whether Euphoria is critiquing internet culture or feeding directly into it.
