Zack Snyder recently had a notable run at Netflix with several projects including the Rebel Moon franchise (with the director’s cut) and Twilight of God. While Rebel Moon came out to be a critical disaster, another Snyder project was seemingly on the table as Netflix has previously nodded to Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas— an animated sequel to his 2004 post-apocalyptic zombie heist film Army of the Dead. However, the project has recently got a disappointing update.

Zack Snyder‘s Army of the Dead starring Dave Bautista, Ella Purnell, and co was a stunning hit on Netflix with a viewership of 186.54 million hours in the 28 days of the release of the film being at the position of eighth most-watched original film on the streamer. While the franchise extended with the prequel film Army of Thieves directed by Matthias Schweighöfer, Snyder has previously teased another animated project in the franchise. However, the producer of the project Jay Oliva has recently given a disappointing update.
In a recent chat with Screen Rant, Oliva shared intricate details of the current status of the animated project, “I mean, they haven’t said I can’t say anything. We completed mostly everything,” Oliva said. “We were in animation, but then Netflix eventually pulled the plug. So I don’t know. I offered to say, hey, let’s try to finish it. But I think their plan is to maybe do a Rebel Moon animated. I don’t know. I’m not a part of that,” he added.
With a stellar voice cast featuring Monica Barbaro from Top Gun: Maverick, Anya Chalotra of The Witcher, Ross Butler from Shazam!, Nolan North of Uncharted, alongside Christina Wren and Yetide Badaki, Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas seemed set to be yet another impressive slate.
Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas Producer Is Still Hopeful For The Project

Oliva is quite hopeful about the Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas, he revealed that the project was looking good and had yet to be shelved entirely as he is hopeful that Netflix could revive it in the future.
“But what I did with Zack on Lost Vegas was amazing,” Oliva said with enthusiasm. “And it’s sad that you guys won’t see it. But there’s no reason that Netflix couldn’t revive it because all the pre-production was done. We were just in animation. All we had to do was to get it finished animated. But it looked great. In fact, what you see in Infinity: Paradise Lost is kind of like what it could look like, because the look of this was what I was trying to do with Lost Vegas.”
As the hard part is already finished, Netflix might decide to revive the project as it would be a waste to abandon the project after completion of the pre-production. Still, it is unclear why Netflix has opted out of the project midway. It is fair to assume that the devastating failure of the Rebel Moon franchise has doomed the other potential projects of Snyder partnering with Netflix.
Army of the Dead, Army of Thieves, and Twilight of God are available to stream on Netflix.
