Liam Hemsworth joined the lead role of The Witcher in the popular Netflix show after Henry Cavill departed from the role. Now, Hemsworth is all geared up to play the iconic Geralt of Rivia which was previously played by Cavill and claimed an astounding global fandom. Hemsworth is set to swing steel and silver swords with the coming season 4 of the popular series. Amid anticipation, the actor recently shared his experience filming the show.
Liam Hemsworth’s The Witcher Experience Is Quite Unique
Liam Hemsworth has recently shared stunning details of his experience being on the set of The Witcher among the cast and crew which was previously accustomed to Henry Cavill. He revealed that the situation was quite unique and compared it to Doctor Who. “This was a really unique situation that I don’t think many actors have ever dealt with apart from maybe the people who have played Doctor Who characters over the years because predominantly the rest of the cast has stayed the same, but the lead actor has changed,” Hemsworth told Collider during the promotional tour of his upcoming movie Lonely Planet starring alongside Laura Dern.
“For me, it felt like coming in and starting high school when everyone else is already friends and has relationships with each other and has been there since the beginning. At times you kind of feel like an outsider, and it’s nothing like any of the cast or crew has treated me in that way. Everyone has been nothing but welcoming and extremely aware of what the situation is.”
The news of Cavill’s departure from the role came as a shocker. The former Superman actor has reportedly left the acclaimed show for creative reasons but the makers had cast Hemsworth on board to continue the show which also reportedly got a nod for its fifth season.
How Liam Hemsworth Landed On Netflix’s The Witcher?
As Cavill left the show, the hunt for a new lead began and Netflix stumbled upon Hemsworth who is best known for his role in The Hunger Games franchise. “I got a call from Netflix two years ago and was told the situation,” the 34-year-old told Collider. “And was told that they were gonna move ahead with this show, and the rest of the cast wanted to move ahead with it, and they asked me to do it,” he continued.
Hemsworth added that although he did not watch the show or read the books, he has been a massive fan of the acclaimed video games. “As a fan of the video game — I’d played the video game 10 years ago or something and was a massive fan of the video game — I said, ‘Let me watch the TV show and let me have a look at the books and dig into it,’ and the idea of playing that character was really exciting,” The Dressmaker actor said.
Further, his interest in the fantasy world also propelled him to take the role, “I’m a big fan of fantasy worlds and films like The Lord of the Rings, and to step into this character was daunting in a lot of ways, not only because of the obvious — that someone else had been playing this character and there is a big fan base behind it that cares about that character — but I was asked to do the job, and I honestly felt like I could come in and do something cool with it,” he said. “As a fan myself of that character, I had the opportunity to go and do that. It was really exciting and scary at the same time,” he added.
The interest in the role kept him motivated. As for the update on the show, Hemsworth revealed, “I’ve got three more weeks of shooting, and it’s been an incredible year. I’m looking forward to doing the next season next year. I’m very excited about it.”
