Beyond the shade of MCU’s umbrella, Chris Hemsworth proved to be a stunning action star as he joined Netflix’s Extraction franchise. The two movies so far received global appreciation from fans and have been some of the biggest Netflix hits. The second installment teased another movie bringing Idris Elba on board with a significant role. But so far, the threequel has not moved to production which raised the eyebrows of several fans.
Chris Hemsworth Has An Update On Extraction 3
Extraction 3 was confirmed at Netflix’s Tudum event in 2023 and it was enough to be excited about the forthcoming installment. However, the production process of the movie was moving at a concerning pace for some reasons. After speculations of Chris Hemsworth’s Extraction 3 production delay, the actor finally revealed the real reason why they are not in a hurry for the threequel. The Thor star also hints that the movie will be bigger than the previous installments with Idris Elba‘s character giving a fine edge to the narrative with Golshifteh Farahani’s potential return.
At San Diego Comic-Con, 2024, Hemsworth finally addressed the delay of the movie. “We’re in the middle of putting it together now, and writing it, and just trying to crack the story,” he told Collider. “Each time there’s been such a great collective collaboration between myself, Sam, the Russos, Netflix in expanding that universe and bringing that courage in life,” the actor added.

Hemsworth’s comment on the movie is certainly an assurance when several movies have been in the developmental hell. One primary example would be Mahershala Ali’s Blade which has been disappointing for many fans. Now, the franchise’s producer Russo Brothers is heading back to the MCU to direct Avengers: Doomsday with Robert Downey Jr’s return as the titular villain, it might take more time for Extraction 3 to come to fruition.
Extraction 3 Delay Is A Good Thing, Here’s Why
Hemsworth’s comments on the delay at SDCC were an assurance that the movie would surely happen despite the slow pace of the development process but the delay is not necessarily a bad thing. It is no secret that Netflix’s Extraction universe is expanding and the introduction of Elba’s Alcott proves that the franchise is getting even stronger with more depth to the future narratives. Also, crafting Elba’s character would be a massive task as there is no room for mistakes to let the acclaimed star’s character grow.
“We just wanna make sure that we have it right,” Hemsworth said and it is fairly understandable from the developmental point of view. “And that we have a script that is good enough basically to follow the last two, because I’m really proud of what we’ve done previously, and hopefully we can do it again. It’s exciting, in the early stages of putting it all together. It’s a fun process.”
For the narrative to strive or expand further with more installments, the upcoming threequel must exceed the beauty of the previous installments. Also, the makers should be able to deliver what fans expect— stunning action sequences, cool gun-blazing, and of course, the intense thrill throughout.
