When Sue Bird and Megan Rapinoe show up courtside, fans know to expect fireworks. This week, they got a comedy show. The retired WNBA great and her soccer star fiancée turned the infamous Coldplay “kiss cam” scandal into a side-splitting stunt at the Seattle Storm’s game against the Minnesota Lynx on August 5. By the time the clip hit social media, it had already gone viral.
Coldplay ‘Kiss Cam’ Joke Meets Sue Bird’s WNBA Humor

The now-famous “kiss cam” incident first exploded in July during Coldplay’s concert at Gillette Stadium. Astronomer CEO Andy Byron and Chief People Officer Kristin Cabot were shown getting cozy on the big screen, prompting Chris Martin to quip, “Oh, look at these two! All right, c’mon, you’re okay… Oh, what? Either they’re having an affair or they’re just very shy.” There was a huge problem. Both were married to other people. The fallout was swift— jobs lost, relationships ended, and an internet meme was born.

Now, just as the internet was trying to forget the incident and move on, Sur Bird and Megan Rapinoe decided to parody the moment at Climate Pledge Arena, and they nailed the delivery. In the second quarter, the jumbotron first landed on Rapinoe, who sat courtside, smiling at the camera. Seconds later, it cut to Bird— higher up in the stands— swaying side to side with the Storm’s red, furry mascot, Doppler. Just like Byron and Cabot, the pair acted shocked, ducking out of frame as if caught in a scandal.
The arena erupted in laughter. Rapinoe played her part perfectly, giving a wide-eyed “caught you” expression as the crowd roared. Bird’s comedic timing— and the fact she was wearing a Mexico soccer jersey— made the gag even sharper.
Sue Bird And Megan Rapinoe’s Beautiful Romance Moment Added A Sweet Memory To Their Relationship

Bird and Rapinoe have never been strangers to the spotlight. The couple went public in 2017 after meeting at a 2016 Rio Olympics photoshoot and got engaged in 2020. Bird retired in 2022 after a 21-year WNBA career with the Storm, posting averages of 11.7 points, 5.6 assists, and 2.5 rebounds over 580 games. Rapinoe stepped away from pro soccer last year but remains one of the sport’s most recognizable figures.
Their playful “kiss cam” remix showed the effortless chemistry that’s made them one of sports’ favorite power couples. While the Storm fell 91–87 to the Lynx, the real win of the night belonged to Bird, Rapinoe, and one mischievous mascot— proving that even in retirement, legends still know how to steal the show.
Seattle Storm legend Sue Bird celebrated another life milestone, and it’s as memorable as her championships. On October 31st, U.S. soccer star Megan Rapinoe proposed poolside. The touching moment quickly made waves online, where the couple enjoys a loyal and enthusiastic fan base.
Earlier this year, Bird captured her fourth WNBA title when the Storm defeated the Las Vegas Aces. Rapinoe, a two-time FIFA Women’s World Cup champion with the U.S. Women’s National Team, is no stranger to career-defining victories herself. Together, they’ve become one of sports’ most admired couples since beginning their relationship in 2016.
