‘Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga’ Is Great But Anya Taylor-Joy’s Movie Couldn’t Beat Charlize Theron’s Astounding Legacy In The Same Franchise

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is great as almost every movie critics have graced the movie after the Cannes Film Festival Premiere. Also, the movie received an astonishing seven-minute standing ovation— quite the clap, quite a big deal for the George Miller-directed and Anya Taylor-Joy-led movie as she went on her sandy adventure against Chris Hemsworth’s villainous role. But, even with all the gracious spectacle, Taylor-Joy’s movie is far behind Charlize Theron’s movie in the same franchise.

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is undoubtedly another George Miller masterpiece and a marvelous addition to a franchise he is obsessed with. Starring Anya Taylor-Joy as a younger version of Imperator Furiosa, previously played by Charlize Theron in Mad Max: Fury Road in 2015. Alongside Taylor-Joy, Chris Hemsworth played Dr. Dementus, a warlord leader of the Bike Horde which abducted Furiosa in the movie. Following the Cannes premiere, critics have rushed to evaluate the movie. Right now, the Miller action adventure stands at 86% on Rotten Tomatoes. Here are some of the top reviews from critics—

“For all of Miller’s auteur prowess, the luxury of a production design team with a larger canvas to build on, and a stunt team who often make the impossible possible, “Furiosa” lives and dies on Any Taylor-Joy’s shoulders.” — Gregory Ellwood, The Playlist.

“Despite the excellent world-building, it’s essentially a series of action sequences ham-handedly strung together by a barely-there plot.” — Martin Tsai, Critic’s Notebook.

“Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga sees George Miller painting on a bigger, yet equally ambitious, action canvas.” — Joey Magidson, Awards Radar

“Need not be another Mad Max: Fury Road, which was a high watermark for cinema, let alone this franchise. It would be fine to be another Thunderdome, which was also good, but Furiosa still exceeds even those measured expectations.” — Fred Topel, United Press International.

“A big, entertaining popcorn movie, told with a sense of adventure and play…. “Furiosa” aims to blow you away. And it does. To Valhalla and beyond.” — Robert Daniels, RogerEbert.com.

Of course, Miller is no stranger to painting the dystopian landscape aiming to awestruck the audience with jaw-dropping spectacular scenes. The movie is inherently moving, with no room for boredom, and the director intentionally omitted much of the dialogue as he believed it would slow the movie down.

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga Is Far Behind Mad Max: Fury Road

Mad Max: Fury Road is the greatest movie of all the five movies from the genius of Miller, or at least, it is hard to refute the Rotten Tomatoes score as the movie claimed a staggering 97% score— the highest of all the five movies.

Also, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is the second-lowest in the Rotten Tomatoes ranking of the movies from the franchise, only surpassing Mel Gibson-led Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome which has an 81% score to its credit, still fresh by the way. After Fury Road, Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior stands at 96%, and the first installment of the movie series, Mad Max, released in 1979 with Gibson as Max Rockatansky claimed an 89% score. In this regard, it’s worth noting that every movie from the groundbreaking sci-fi franchise was certified fresh and never went below 80%.

SUGGESTED: Why ‘Mad Max’ Franchise Has Little Room For Dialogues?

Back to the Theron and Tom Hardy-starrer movie, it was the crown jewel of the franchise, an immaculate experience that felt so fresh and gripping. Without a shred of doubt, Mad Max: Fury Road possesses the essence of the spectacle and grandeur narrative that tickles to the bones witnessing the masterclass.

Inherently, Fury Road despite being a chase movie has been quite the history-maker. Stream Mad Max: Fury Road on Max. Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga will hit the theater on 23 May 2024 release.
