After all the anticipation, excitement, and what not, now it’s finally confirmed news that Cillian Murphy, the Oscar winner will reprise his famous role of Tommy Shelby from the hit show Peaky Blinders, this time on a bigger screen. Streaming giant Netflix made the announcement along with a picture of the script. Now, here’s everything you need to know about the upcoming movie.
What Did The Announcement By Netflix Say?
On Tuesday, June 4, Netflix confirmed Murphy’s gangster Tommy Shelby would return for a movie version of the hit series.
“It seems like Tommy Shelby wasn’t finished with me. It is very gratifying to be re-collaborating with Steven Knight and Tom Harper on the film version of Peaky Blinders. This is one for the fans,” the actor said in the statement.
The show ran for six seasons from 2013 to 2022.

According to Deadline, filming for the Peaky Blinders movie is set to start later this year. The plot is being kept under wraps, but Knight teased it would take place during World War II while explaining more about the franchise’s future: “I’m genuinely thrilled that this movie is about to happen. It will be an explosive chapter in the Peaky Blinders story. No holds barred. Full-on Peaky Blinders at war.“

Who’s Behind The Peaky Blinders Movie?
The movie will be written by Knight and directed by Heart of Stone filmmaker Tom Harper. Knight will co-produce alongside Cillian Murphy, Caryn Mandabach, and Guy Heeley. Executive producers include Harper, David Kosse, Jamie Glazebrook, Andrew Warren, and David Mason.
Who Is In The Peaky Blinders Film Cast?
Cillian Murphy is currently the only confirmed member of the Peaky Blinders cast. Murphy’s most famous character will probably always be Thomas Shelby, even after he won an Oscar for Best Actor in Oppenheimer. Therefore, it will be interesting to see him wear the cap once more.
We’ll just have to wait and see whether the other show alumni decide to return to their respective roles in the film. Fingers crossed, though, as it would be difficult to envision a Peaky Blinders film without Paul Anderson, Sophie Rundle, Harry Kirton, Ned Dennehy, and others.
Murphy talked about his role in a May 2023 interview with Rolling Stone, saying at the time that he would “love” to reprise as Thomas Shelby, but there’d be one condition. “If there’s more story there, I’d love to do it. But it has to be right,” he told the publication.
The release date hasn’t been released yet, but production is set to begin in September, so we can expect more updates in the coming year.
