Jon Moxley formerly known as Dean Ambrose and as a key member of the popular heel band The Shield, recently responded to the huge speculation in a few seconds. Fans truly believed his return to WWE for the aid of Cody Rhodes in the final five minutes of chaos in WrestleMania 40. However, it was Seth Rollins, a former member of the band who lost the World Heavyweight Championship at the same event.

Jon Moxley who was known as Dean Ambrose in his WWE tenure, has responded to the speculation of the Superstar’s WWE return. “I was asleep in Japan when that was going on,” Moxley told Sports Illustrated. The AEW Superstar was in Japan for a tag match with Shota Umino against Jack Perry and Ren Narita.

“When I woke up, I had these messages saying, ‘I thought you were coming out!’ And I was like, ‘Coming out where?’” he added.

However, Moxley acknowledged that he liked fans assuming it was him when The Shield music hit. “It’s cool that people thought it was me. But I was asleep,” he said.

Moxley left WWE in 2019. Later the Superstar joined New Japan Pro Wrestling and shifted to All Elite Wrestling as he forged his own legacy in the company with astonishing records and title reign. “That’s true, I signed a contract with New Japan before I signed one with AEW,” Moxley said.

After the speculation of the Superstar appearing in the WWE, fans have called him back to the promotion.

Any WWE fans will recall the legacy of The Shield and the heel band breaking up after Rollin’s betrayal. Of course, WWE has pulled off the near-perfect storyline at WrestleMania 40 with Roman Reigns fulfilling his revenge as Rollins appeared in his Shield gear. Regardless, almost no one assumed it was Rollins until he was right in the squared circle with a chair to help Rhodes. For many, it was a disappointment that Moxley didn’t appear but the event far far from disappointment. Regardless, fans are now urging the former WWE champion to come back to the promotion.

It is unlikely that Moxley will return to WWE anytime soon, he is currently enjoying his tenure at AEW creating his name and making it prominent among the top Superstars of the company.

Moxley and his Shield partners have made a legacy in WWE and certainly, The Shield will be remembered forever. Although Moxley left WWE for good, his partners; Rollins and Reigns are still in the company and they have been among the most popular assets of the company with great storylines to elevate their prowess. Moxley said that he is happy with his former WWE partners.

“What they’ve done, it’s a really cool thing. We were nobodies. We came in with attitudes, and we pretty much said, ‘We’re coming in, f*ck you, and we’re taking this sh*t over.’ The more time that passes, the more it becomes evident that we did exactly what we said we were going to do.”

At WrestleMania 40, both Rollins and Reigns lost their titles and they have been absent from the promotion since.

As for Moxley, he is at the peak of his career. Recently, the Superstar has become the first guy to hold the WWE, AEW, and IWGP titles.

“I’m the first guy to hold all three–WWE, AEW, and IWGP. It feels so humbling to be put in this position. It’s a different world with the IWGP title, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. So I’m going to storm the f*cking castle.”

The 38-year-old is still in the game and will continue to elevate his legacy in AEW. As of writing this piece, we can only hope for his return to WWE.
