When the first season of Andor starring Diego Luna’s Cassian Andor, hit Disney+ in 2022, fans and critics immediately showered praise for the series. Created by Tony Gilroy, the series is set in the Star Wars universe following Luna’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story character into deeper perspective, and deeper adventure. The lead star of the show, Luna recently teased that fans will have the same feast as they had with the first season of the show.

D23 Expo has revealed several Star Wars projects and Andor season 2 is one of the most exciting and highly anticipated projects from Lucasfilm. In an interview with Rotten Tomatoes TV, Andor star Diego Luna spilled how much dedication and care actually went into the production of this critically acclaimed Star Wars series, Andor. According to Luna, who reprised his role as Cassian Andor, originally seen in Gareth Edwards’ 2016 movie, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, much attention from the team was directed to everything so that the show would stand out within the larger Star Wars universe.

“I think it’s because there is much love behind this project,” reflected Luna on the series’ development. “We took it very seriously. We said, ‘If we’re going to do something new in the world of Star Wars, in this universe, it has to be different; it has to be unique.'”

Luna was all praise for the stewardship from showrunner Tony Gilroy, “Tony Gilroy is not just a great writer but a great director, and a guy that thinks film. The team he put together is all people that love film, love filmmaking,” Luna said. One can see this dedication to the excellence of the show reflected in its structure. “We took this first season as four films—we committed to it as four films,” he explained, adding that the same approach is being applied to the upcoming second season.

The actor also opened up about how personal it was to come back to the Star Wars universe. “It’s been six years now since I started talking about Andor, and even longer since I’ve been playing the character… It’s been 10 years of playing Cassian,” Luna said. “But again, if I was like, ‘If we go back to this character, it’s because we’re going to do something very special.’ Because for me, Rogue One is already very special. It’s a different film that connected differently with an audience.”

Luna described Andor as “mature” and “realistic” for a franchise set in a galaxy far, far away. “This is a show about the people, about revolution, and about everyday life in this galaxy,” he explained. The actor mentioned careful attention to detail while talking about the production process of the highly anticipated Disney+ show, “We are very meticulous in the way we approach every scene, every moment, every character.”

Luna also teased about what direction his character will take in Andor season 2, “He’s still a very conflicted man,” revealing that his character would continue the essence of the first season.

“Someone that knows he has to become part of this movement, that the cause means something, that there’s an opportunity for him to be part of something better, to bring change. But there’s a lot for him to learn, a lot for him to also sacrifice. Very little events are going to show him that he could be different, but he has to believe. He has to believe in himself, he has to believe in the strength of the numbers that a revolution represents, and he has to meet many characters. It’s going to be a very rich second season.”

Andor season 2 also stars Alan Tudyk as K-2SO, Kyle Soller as Surill Karn, Stellan Skarsgard as Luthen Rael, and Adria Arjona as Bix Caleen. The release date of Andor season 2 is still under wraps.
