Tom Holland’s Spider-Man 4 development update was previously surfaced but now it seems that the movie is moving at rather a slower pace. While officially, we only have the confirmation of the movie with Holland returning to his titular Marvel role, insider Alex Perez gave a few updates on Spider-Man 4 for fans to hold onto.
Insider Details Spider-Man 4 Updates
Spider-Man 4 is a sure thing but fans have to wait for a while for Tom Holland to get back into his Spidey suit. Spider-Man: No Way Home, the third installment to the blockbuster franchise, was released in December 2021 and teased that Holland’s Peter Parker narrative was just beginning.
While fans have been wondering about the potential updates on the upcoming Marvel and Sony’s collaborated slate, industry insider Alex Perez recently joined a Q&A on Cosmic Circus’ discord server answering several questions from fans on MCU projects.
On a positive note, Perez said that Spider-Man 4 is moving to production “Later this year if they want to keep that date.” The insider further confirmed that Holland’s girlfriend Zendaya is returning to her role as MJ. Doctor Strange’s last spell in No Way Home has wiped the memories of Peter Parker from potentially everyone including his MJ and his best friend Ned played by Jacob Batalon.
The insider also gave the potential release window of the highly anticipated film saying, “I’m hearing the July 2026 date that Marvel removed from their spot is being given to Sony to release Spider-Man 4.” Also, Disney reportedly has a slot for a Marvel Movie release between Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, and Spider-Man 4 could fit right into the slot.
Spider-Man 4 Is Finding A New Director
While it’s a possibility that Spider-Man 4 could move to production later this year, Marvel Studios is yet to lock on a new director. Perez also shared that he heard a rumor from a source “about a pair of directors who Marvel might be looking at to direct the movie” but so far there is no confirmation about it. Jon Watts’ who directed the first three installments of Holland’s Spider-Man movies previously exited Marvel Studios as he reportedly needed a break from the superhero movies. Fair enough, but it left Kevin Feige and the studio to look for a new director.
Marvel Boss Feige addressed Watts’ departure from the franchise in 2022 saying, “Collaborating with Jon on the Spider-Man films has been a true pleasure. We were looking forward to continuing our work with him to bring the Fantastic Four into the MCU but understand and are supportive of his reasons for stepping away. We are optimistic that we will have the opportunity to work together again at some point down the road,” (via Deadline).

Watts didn’t return to the studio not even for The Fantastic Four: First Steps as Matt Shakman is sitting on the director’s chair for the Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach starrer movie.
Watts also commented on his departure from the superhero brand. “Making three Spider-Man films was an incredible and life-changing experience for me,” the director said of Holland’s Spider-Man trilogy. “I’m eternally grateful to have been a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe for seven years. I’m hopeful we’ll work together again,” he added.
So far, official updates on Spider-Man 4 are under wraps.
