Yes, Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool claims to be the Marvel Jesus as he debuts Marvel Cinematic Universe with Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine through their latest pic Deadpool & Wolverine directed by Shawn Levy. While Deadpool utters “I am the Marvel Jesus” in the movie more than once, fans seemingly consider Robert Downey Jr as the real Marvel Jesus as he returns to the MCU five years after his departure following the event of Avengers: Endgame.

The ending of Avengers: Endgame was certainly a heartbreaker as our beloved Tony Stark aka Iron Man sacrificed himself to restore the universe from Thanos’ snap. We all recall, the “I’m Iron Man” dialogue with heavy hearts but Robert Downey Jr who played Iron Man since 2008 had a glorious farewell with the movie.

RDJ has proved his prowess more than once with his roles appraising in movies across genres even beyond the umbrella of Marvel Studios. His movies as a leading actor have grossed over $14 billion globally while claiming an Oscar for his role in Oppenheimer.
The 59-year-old is now returning to the MCU with a new mask— this time not of a hero but the next big bad who will appear in Avengers: Doomsday which will be directed by the Russo Brothers. Of course, his first appearance as Doom could be sooner than the upcoming Avengers movie but the extent of the character, in terms of development could only happen in the fifth installment.

When RDJ came to SDCC to reveal his face behind the mask of Doctor Doom wearing a Green suit (Doom’s signature color) all Marvel fans were in awe. It was certainly the biggest surprise of the year so far. Now that his return is confirmed, fans jumped out of their chair to hail the actor in his newfound villainous role.

Also, Downey has made a fortune playing Iron Man over the years zipping about $396-$435 million in his bag of fortune from the movies in the MCU alone. With his new role as Doom, the actor might gain more whopping paychecks but it would pay off as the popularity and the charm of the actor will further enhance with Doom.
Avengers: Doomsday is slated for release in May 2026.
