Avengers 5 has to be big to carry the legacy of the franchise. The MCU franchise has been a blockbuster with its previous four installments including, The Avengers, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Avengers: Infinity War, and the 2019 hit Avengers: Endgame which also marked the end of Infinity Saga. Now, Marvel Studios is planning something big with the franchise’s fifth installment.

Marvel Studios is making intricate plans for Avengers 5. Recently, Deadline reported the studio is looking to lock the deal with Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy to direct the upcoming Avengers movie but the director would have a conflict schedule with the film as he is set to direct two episodes of Netflix’s flagship show Stranger Things

The outlet also reported that Marvel Studios is bringing back more than 60 characters for the upcoming ensemble feature which will be “one of Marvel’s largest productions to date.” Further, insiders close to the project told the outline that Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, and Benedict Cumberbatch are set to return for the project alongside Tom Hiddleston, Simu Liu, and Karen Gillian in their respective MCU roles.

The first four installments of The Avengers were orbiting around the core six which includes Chris Evans as Captain America, Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye and Mark Ruffalo as Hulk, the new Avengers movie will add more superheroes. Also, the new heroes in the franchise will have equal footing.

Marvel Studios Found An Answer To Overcome Jonathan Majors’ Absence

MCU was establishing the (current) big bad of the cinematic universe, Kang played by Jonathan Majors in Loki and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. The Quantumania villain, however, went down the uncertainty lane as Majors was convicted of third-degree assault and harassment of his former girlfriend Grace Jabbari. Immediately after the verdict, Marvel Studios dropped the actor but it has created a huge void as Majors was one of the primary characters for the Multiverse Saga.

Marvel boss Kevin Feige officially announced Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars to be the end of the Multiverse Saga during his presentation at the 2022 San Diego Comic-Con. Avengers: The Kang Dynasty would extensively feature Kang but after dropping Majors, the studio has found a way to tackle the big question at hand. The studio has reportedly changed the original title of the movie to simply Avengers 5.

This makes sense but obliterating Kang would still be out of the question. As per previous reports, the studio was looking for a new actor to play Kang but the studio has yet to confirm the validation behind the update.

Regardless, it is fair to assume that Avengers 5 would be no less a spectacle than Avengers: Endgame.

Currently, Avengers 5 is slated for a May 1, 2026 release.
