If Hugh Jackman’s return as Wolverine in Deadpool & Wolverine isn’t enough, his comic-accurate yellow costume would definitely spark the conversation many times. Right after the revelation of his yellow and blue costume that came to the public eyes following the leaked images and photos from the set, there was a never-ending discussion about it, now, Shawn Levy revealed that it was Marvel Studios’ seriousness that landed the iconic Wolverine suit in the movie.
Shawn Levy Addressed Marvel’s Seriousness About Wolverine Costume
Marvel is very serious about their characters’ suits in the costume department. Marvel Boss Kevin Feige personally demanded the classic yellow costume for Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine following his return after Logan which marked the end of Fox’s Marvel movies where he was deprived of the yellow costume rather joking about it as “yellow spandex.”
Jackman who loved wearing the yellow suit was one of the best things that happened in the movie. But much of the credit goes to Marvel Studios as Shawn Levy rightly said that they literally have an army for the job.
“A lot of help from Marvel I can I tell you… They have an army of artists and Specialists whose sole job is helping figure out costume design first on paper then in three-dimensional buildable navigable wearable reality getting the yellow and blue right took so many versions and now it feels undeniable and obvious but wow that took a lot of work,” Levy told Josh Horowitz in an episode of his Happy Sad and Confused podcast.
For the first time, the yellow costume made Wolverine a whole— a version fans have been waiting for far too long. Fox introduced a black leather suit for the character alongside the X-Men team of Professor X, which worked for their purpose too but the new costume has redefined the essence of the character which also carried an important meaning to him as it was the last remaining memory of his X-Men team.
The Cowl— Another Big Swing At The Wolverine Costume
There is no denying that Deadpool & Wolverine is the ultimate fan fest movie and Ryan Reynolds and Levy made sure to give fans the astonishing pleasure with several immaculate details and easter eggs. While, for the most part, Wolverine did not flash his cowl, the movie ended with it alongside Deadpool’s mask.
“This is something that we talk about Hugh and I have talked a lot about how the mask is such a big swing it shouldn’t work like you would think. It’s a little too much or it’s… Man, as soon as he put that thing on, I couldn’t shoot it enough. I, I studied its angles, I loved it in profile. I loved it in 3 quarters, I love him in the suit and Hugh felt and he’s described kind of just feeling his most Wolverinish when that cowl was on,” Levy said.
Still, other than his pants and cowl, we have seen the rest of his suit was burnt to ashes when he and Deadpool saved the timeline from the Time Reaper accelerated by Cassandra Nova that Mr Paradox built. But with that shot, Jackman certainly got the screen to flex his abs with his muscular physique. Perhaps, he’ll get another suit in the future project as the possibilities are endless.
Deadpool & Wolverine is now showing in theaters.
