Shawn Levy’s Marvel Cinematic Universe tenure might extend even after his upcoming movie Deadpool & Wolverine. The upcoming MCU stale for the director has been strategically planned as it will be the only movie from Marvel Studios to hit the big screen this year. Now, as per a new report by Deadline, the studio is eyeing Levy to direct the next Avengers movie. Now. the question arises, is he a really good choice for the project?
Marvel Studios Is Eying On Shawn Levy To Direct The Next Avengers Movie
Shawn Levy has definitely made a promising case as the director is preparing to serve an astonishing summer R-rated treat for fans. Starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, the movie is set out to be a huge hit coming to the aid of Marvel Studios to thrive at the box office again after the diminishing results of the 2023 movies— Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and The Marvels.
Now, as per a recent report by Deadline created a huge wave of discussion among fans. The report stated, Levy is the “top choice” and is “having early conversations” to direct the fifth Avengers movie. The report also reveals that Loki creator Michael Waldron wrote a script for the upcoming Avengers movie and Marvel Studios gave it to Levy but Deadline insiders said that the director is yet to give the studio an answer.
Still, the superhero brand is keeping him in the mix while looking for other directors to direct the feature of the successful Avengers franchise.
Shawn Levy Is Super Busy
The primary reason behind Levy’s unable to give a solid ‘YES’ to the project has to be his packed schedule which would conflict with Marvel Studios’ planned production date. Levy is scheduled to direct two episodes and executive produce the final season of Netflix’s flagship show Stranger Things, which would book him till next year.
As per a THR report on the same, it was revealed that Levy’s scheduling for other projects was not in line with Marvel’s timetable. Avengers 5 is slated for May 1, 2026 and it’s time they start the production soon. Still, the studio pushed several months to make room for the Deadpool & Wolverine director but so far, it’s hard to tell if Levy could join the project.
Is Shawn Levy The Right Choice?
Levy’s Deadpool & Wolverine early reception is stunning and has already broken pre-ticket sales records. As per THR insiders the ambitious project from Marvel Studios has claimed $8 million to $9 million in ticket sales on the first day.
Now, it would be very hard to deny Levy’s prowess as a director. Deadpool & Wolverine is set to create an astonishing box-office record with almost every necessary box ticked. But again, the concern is looming on the horizon of Marvel fans for the same reason it slightly worries us. The tonality of Deadpool & Wolverine would be far too different from Avengers 5 which will chase an unworldly multiversal threat with the gravity of seriousness, at least far too serious than Deadpool & Wolverine— well, it’s self-explanatory.
Levy previously directed Night at the Museum, Real Steel, Free Guy, and The Adam Project, mostly, they are movies with a comic undertone but his upcoming MCU movie will top in comedy, which is a great thing for the pic. Of course, Levy is a capable director and he can see through the next Avengers film with ease considering his multiversal take on Reynolds and Jackman starrer movie. So, again, is Levy the right choice for the project? We’d say yes because Avengers 5 might deserve some comic relief somewhere down the line as fans will most certainly miss Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man’s subtle humor.
Destin Daniel Cretton who directed the studios’ 2021 flick, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings was roped in to direct Avengers 5 but departed in November.
Avengers 5 is slated for May 1, 2026 release.
