Elizabeth Olsen isn’t feeding the rumor mill. If anything, she’s gently stepping away from it. At a time when speculation around Marvel’s next big crossover is running hot, the actor behind Wanda Maximoff is choosing caution over hype. Fans have been waiting for clarity on whether she will appear in Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars. For now, that clarity isn’t coming. What Olsen did offer, though, is a glimpse into how she thinks about the character, and why her return, if it happens, has to mean something.
Elizabeth Olsen on Avengers: Doomsday Return Rumors

Elizabeth Olsen’s relationship with Wanda goes back more than a decade, starting with a brief tease in Captain America: The Winter Soldier before evolving into one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s most layered arcs. From supporting Avenger to the emotional center of WandaVision, she helped turn Wanda into a character defined by grief, power, and difficult choices.
That journey took a sharp turn in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, where Wanda became the film’s central antagonist. It was a bold move, and not everyone embraced it. The story ended with what looked like a final sacrifice, as Wanda brought down Mount Wundagore in an attempt to make amends. Since then, the silence around her fate has only made fans more restless.
Speaking at Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo, Olsen didn’t offer much in the way of reassurance. Instead, she kept things disarmingly honest. “I don’t know nothing about any of it,” she said, brushing aside questions about the upcoming Avengers films. She also confirmed she hasn’t heard anything about VisionQuest, the rumored continuation of threads from WandaVision. (via Marvel Updates on X)
Still, her comments weren’t dismissive. If anything, they revealed how carefully she approaches the role. Olsen shared that she has “offered up things [she’d] like to do” and wants “to be of service to a story.” That mindset has guided her work with Marvel from the start. As she put it, “every time” she has worked with the studio, “it’s [been] character-driven.” That focus matters to her. “it’s not like, ‘just throw her in something.'”
Scarlet Witch Future in Avengers: Secret Wars and Beyond

Even without confirmation, the conversation around Wanda hasn’t slowed down. Theories continue to build, many of them rooted in comic lore. One popular idea suggests Wanda survived the collapse in Multiverse of Madness and could return under the influence of Doctor Doom, using her reality-bending powers in ways that reshape the battlefield. It’s a storyline that would fit neatly into the scale of Avengers: Secret Wars, especially with Marvel leaning into multiverse chaos.
Olsen herself seems open to possibilities, even if she isn’t privy to Marvel’s plans. She mentioned that she thinks that “House of M is just the coolest,” a nod to one of Wanda’s most iconic comic arcs. She also added that she “would love to get to work with Aubrey [Plaza] again,” referencing their connection through Agatha All Along.
Her past comments show that the door is far from closed. “I want to see [her] return in this role because I think what they’ve done with her is really great, and I love the journey she’s taken,” she said earlier. At the same time, she’s been consistent about one thing: “I think it’s always a fun one to get to go back into, and I just have no idea how or when, for sure.”
That uncertainty reflects a larger shift within Marvel. As the Multiverse Saga heads toward its finale, there’s growing space for newer heroes to take the spotlight. Characters like Shang-Chi, Ms. Marvel, and others are poised to define what comes next, even as familiar faces circle the edges of the story.
For Scarlet Witch fans, that means waiting a little longer. But if Olsen’s approach is any indication, a return will only happen if it serves the story, not just the moment. And that might be exactly what the character needs.
