Warning: The article contains SPOILERS for Deadpool & Wolverine.
Henry Cavill’s cameo as Cavillrine— a Wolverine variant created especially for Deadpool & Wolverine as a fan service— has been the talk of the town after Marvel Studios pulled off the huge surprise. While the cameo was a huge hit, the extent Cavill went for the role was insane and even made him sick.
Henry Cavill Did Something Unimaginable For Deadpool & Wolverine
The dedication to roles among actors is not strange in Hollywood, several actors have gone to their extreme edge while perfecting their characters. However, Henry Cavill who previously played Superman under DC, did something that proves his dedication to the role in Deadpool & Wolverine that marks his Marvel debut. The director of the movie, Shawn Levy recently spoke with The New York Times and shared that Cavill smoked the cigar for eight hours which rattled his body.
“He kept that cigar lit and in his mouth for the entirety of the shoot day,” Levy said of Cavill smoking cigars on set. “I remember hearing the next day that Henry was sick to his stomach because he had been inhaling cigar smoke for eight hours straight, but never once did he waver.”
Cavill’s dedication to his role worked for the best as it turned out, it was one of the highly praised cameos in the movie where he recreated his iconic Mission: Impossible – Fallout action scene, this time with his claws which was a cool addition to his character.
Ryan Reynolds Coined “Cavillerine” For Henry Cavill
Cavill’s character does not exist in the comic book unlike the other Wolverine variants shown in the movie, the name was reportedly created by Ryan Reynolds. Recently, Levy spoke with Variety and discussed several spoiler-infested scenes and characters in Deadpool & Wolverine.
“If we’re going to talk about him, we must call him by his actual credited name, the Cavillerine, which Ryan coined,” Levy disclosed.
The director went on to add, “I knew it was undeniable as soon as Ryan came up with that term. He said ‘yes’ right away because he knew it would be subversive and playful. It was also with a lot of affection for him and his body of work, and playing with his legacy as a DC hero now that he’s appearing as a variant of a Marvel hero.”
Cavill along with other cameos made a stunning name. With the popularity of the character, Marvel Studios may consider him as the next Wolverine as the superhero brand is seemingly on the road to giving fans the ultimate delight. The primary example of this would be Robert Downey Jr’s surprising return to the MCU now to play the Avenger’s big baddie Doctor Doom. While Hugh Jackman’s tenure as Wolverine in the MCU has just started, the actor may not have long to continue the character after wearing the claws for 24 years. In that case, Cavill makes a solid case to be the next Wolverine but we can expect Jackman with his Wolverine claws until Avengers: Secret Wars.
Deadpool & Wolverine is now showing in theaters.
