Deadpool & Wolverine climbing the ladder to be a fascinating hit coming for the first time under the banner of Marvel Studios with X-Men characters transitioning from 20th Century Fox. While the movie makes it right with a heartfelt tribute to the Marvel movies produced under the banner of Fox, now the X-Men characters are getting a wide platform to interact with different other characters as well. But beyond the X-Men’s MCU debut the interaction and transition of narrative have been splendidly presented by Shawn Levy while keeping two of the most bone-ticking questions on the plates for fans. Fantastic Four: First Step director Matt Shakman has an answer to one of the questions, in case you are wondering.

Matt Shakman Answers One Of The Deadpool & Wolverine’s Unanswered Questions

Matt Shakman believes Scarlet Witch is MCU's anchor being

Before diving into Matt Shakman’s answer, it would be wise to reflect on the two questions we have as Deadpool asked Matthew Macfadyen’s Mr Paradox. First, why is Thor crying as Deadpool seemingly on his deathbed? Paradox simply refuted the real answer saying it was unimportant to him at the moment as Ryan Renolds’ Merc with a Mouth has rather a critical mission at his hand. Still, it bugged him throughout the movie and the audience could not escape the curiosity either.

Second question, who is the anchor being of the sacred timeline? Iron Man? For context, the mainline Marvel Universe is from Earth-616 while Earth-10005 includes all the Fox X-Men including Logan where Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine sacrificed his life to save his daughter and a bunch of mutant kids. Turns out he was the anchor being of Earth-10005.

In this essence, it seems that Robert Downey Jr’s Iron Man could be the anchor being— the most important being in a universe and the fate of the particular universe is dependent on that person. However, Earth-616 is still intact, so, it discards the possibility of Iron Man being the anchor being of this universe.

Now, back to Shakman, the director of WandaVision recently revealed at SDCC that Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch is the anchor being of the mainline Marvel Universe. “Oh, gosh. I don’t know. For 616, I’d have to say the Scarlet Witch. My girl, Wanda,” the Fantastic Four: First Step director told Screen Rant.

Scarlet Witch’s death in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was not confirmed despite the fact that she collapsed Mount Wundagore on herself. WandaVision spinoff Agatha All Along seemingly confirmed her death but she can very well be resurrected through the upcoming Disney+ series.

Another Marvel Character Is Likely To Be The Anchor Being Of Mainline Marvel

Loki may be the anchor being of MCU

Not Scarlet Witch, not even Tony Stark despite his heroic death in Avengers: Endgame similar to Jackman’s Logan. However, one character who is not even in the Avengers or any league of heroes in MCU could be the anchor being of the prime Marvel Universe. You may have guessed it right.

The God of Mischief from Asgard appeared in the MCU as the villain of the first Avengers movie in 2012. Played graciously by Tom Hiddleston for over 14 years, the titular villain later became the biggest MCU hero now serving the Glorious Purpose. Nothing can beat his sacrifice in Loki season 2, episode 6 as he became the God of the universe transforming himself into Yggdrasil— the tree of timelines in the universe.

So, why do we think Loki is the anchor being of the main Marvel Universe? It is obvious, his realization of his purpose has propelled him to sacrifice himself to save the entire universe from spaghettification. He is the supreme being in this universe serving an even higher purpose than his brother Thor and in a way bigger than Tony Stark’s death.
