Marvel fans hoping for a swift return of the Eternals might be disappointed. Recent reports suggest that the sequel to the 2021 film has been shelved by Marvel Studios. This news comes as a surprise, considering the cliffhangers left unresolved in the first movie. While whispers of a potential sequel had circulated online, fueled by fan-made posters and speculation, official confirmation remained elusive. Now, insider reports claim that the project has been scrapped entirely.

Recent reports indicate that Marvel Studios has opted to shelve the idea of Eternals 2 in favor of focusing on projects deemed more likely to be successful at the box office. This decision has come as a shock to fans who were eagerly anticipating the sequel.

Industry insider Daniel RPK suggests a shift in focus at Marvel Studios, prioritizing established box office successes over unproven ventures.

Reports point towards Marvel CEO Bob Iger prioritizing “quality over quantity,” potentially leading to the axing of Eternals 2. Rumors suggest that Iger views the sequel as a potential financial misstep, while Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige reportedly remains interested in pursuing the project.

This reported decision by Iger likely stems from the box office performance of recent films like Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and The Marvels.

Focus on Upcoming Projects

In light of these developments, Marvel Studios is redirecting its focus towards other projects slated for release this year, such as Deadpool 3, Kraven the Hunter, and Venom 3

While some may interpret the decision to potentially cancel Eternals 2 as a cautious move, it also presents an opportunity for Marvel to concentrate on delivering high-quality content in its upcoming releases.

If Disney is indeed urging Marvel to focus on proven box office performers, fans might see a faster rollout of sequels for Doctor Strange, Black Panther, and Thor. These franchises have consistently garnered strong commercial reception.

While the news of Eternals 2‘s cancellation remains unconfirmed, it certainly casts a cloud of uncertainty over the future of these cosmic heroes. Only time will tell if they’ll grace the silver screen once again.
