‘No, Shut Up…’: Channing Tatum Hilariously Annoyed Dafne Keen During Their ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Filming Causing Her To ‘Break Character’ Many Times

Dafne Keen claimed that Channing Tatum was super invested with Gambit which was kind of annoying to her.

Channing Tatum’s first appearance as Gambit in Deadpool & Wolverine was the ultimate funhouse itself. However, Dafne Keen’s Laura is rather mature and among a handful of serious characters in the movie. While Tatum’s job was to exude zealousness through his X-Men character (that he never got to play before despite his constant attempts that were far from fruition), Keen was certainly annoyed by his character distracting her from playing X-23.

Dafne Keen’s return was confirmed a week before the release of Deadpool & Wolverine after the actor constantly denied her role in the movie until the final trailer of the Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman starrer blockbuster. Keen who played X-23/Laura— Wolverine’s biological daughter made in a lab using his DNA, possesses similar traits as him— appeared in Logan when she was just eleven but impressed fans immediately. Sure, Logan was one of the best X-Men movies produced under the banner of 20th Century Fox but Keen’s performance as Laura was one of the highlighting factors of the movie.

Channing Tatum’s Gambit is also exciting. Not only did he get to play the role he wholeheartedly advocated to have a solo movie before Disney acquired 20th Century Fox, but he enjoyed every bit of his screen time with utter glory. Tatum’s Gambit has been a huge hit and the talk of the town but he definitely annoyed his co-star Keen while filming their scenes.

Recently, Keen spoke with Phase Zero and reflected on her days on the set recounting how Tatum annoyed her. “I had to tell him that on my shot he couldn’t say his lines,” Keen shared.

“To do it and I kept breaking character because I’d be doing like I was doing my, like brooding Wolverine vibe I was like, ‘yeah, let’s f*cking go.’ And then he’d be like, ‘I was laying my mom nut in my buttery mom (gibberish),’ like, ‘No shut up’ I have to do my job over here you’re making it so hard,” Keen added.

Tatum made sure to have a good time on the set. After all, he got to play the character he sought for quite a while, thanks to Ryan Reynolds. However, in that process, Keen had to break her character bursting into laughter. “Even the like formation when he’s like ‘I’m about to make a name for myself,’ I was like ‘no,’ again card collected, and this guy is just like yapping in my ear,” Keen said. “He’s also he’s right in front of me and it’s like full frontal shot, I was like, ‘you probably see it somewhere like dying.’”

Like his co-stars, Tatum has trained hard for his stunning cameo. Shawn Levy, director of Deadpool & Wolverine, recently spoke with Variety sharing that Channing Tatum had been eager to play Gambit for over a decade, almost securing the role at Fox multiple times. “I know this personally because back in those years, I was one of 25 different directors who met with Channing about directing the Fox ‘Gambit’ movie, and yet it never quite happened,” Levy revealed.

When they decided to include Gambit in the movie, they knew it would be incredibly gratifying for the 44-year-old. The script originally included several borderline nonsensical lines, but Tatum infused them with “Cajun and French” flavor. “To this day, there are some things he says — like when he sees Hugh drinking his liquor and he throws a charged-up card his way, he says something that sounds a lot like cooyain-zwah — where I don’t f*cking know the words,” Levy admitted.

On set, when Deadpool quipped, “That’s not a word. Who is your dialect coach … the Minions?” it brought laughter to everyone’s faces on set. “We absolutely loved it,” Levy said, reflecting on the fun and spontaneity Channing brought to the role that has become the instant hit.

Deadpool & Wolverine is showing in theaters.
