Robert Pattinson starrer and Matt Reeves directed The Batman: Part II has been pushed by a year. We will have to wait a bit more to see Pattinson donning the cape and cowl again. The sequel to The Batman was initially slated to be released on October 3, 2025. Delayed by a full year, now it’s rescheduled to October 2, 2026.
The Batman: Part 2 Is Delayed a Year
The Warner Bros. announced yesterday that The Batman Part II will be delayed for about a year. This highly anticipated sequel to Matt Reeves’ dark and gritty superhero movie The Batman was originally supposed to get released in October 2025. However, fans will now have to wait until October 2, 2026 for Robert Pattinson to reprise his role as brooding billionaire vigilante Bruce Wayne/Batman.
While official casting decision are still under wraps, aside from Pattinson’s confirmed return, director Reeves assured fans at CinemaCon 2022 that “the entire crew” will be returning to Gotham for the sequel. This means Zoe Kravitz’s Catwoman and Paul Dano’s Riddlers could make a return with other familiar faces.
The upcoming DC Elseworlds movie, starring Robert Pattinson as the Dark Knight, marks a departure from the continuity of the new DC universe. Matt Reeves’ The Batman drew in audiences with its depiction of Gotham and its inhabitants, making the sequel’s delay all the more disappointing
The blame for this postponement lies entirely on the shoulders of the 2023 Hollywood strike. The strike in 2023 had a profound effect on many movies and TV shows, disrupting scripts and filming schedules for months. According to The Wrap , internal sources have revealed that The Batman Part – II is pushed back due to delays in script development due to the 2023 strikes
The change in The Batman – Part II release date to 2026 could affect other projects in the DC universe, especially the James Gunn Batman reboot. DC Studios co-heads James Gunn and Peter Saffron have previously stated their intention not to release the Pattinson sequel on in six months, which makes a 2027 release for The Brave and the Bold the most likely after The Batman – Part II‘s delay.
Barry Keoghan Will Reprise the Role of The Joker for Matt Reeves’ The Batman Sequel
Keeping the fans in much anticipation, Barry Keoghan hinted at the possibility of returning to play Joker in The Batman – Part II. During an interview with ETalk, when asked directly whether he would set to return in The Batman – Part II, which will now be arriving in 2026, Keoghan though didn’t give a direct answer, he gave the following cryptic response:
“I can’t really say anything about it, but it would be exciting, wouldn’t it? Seeing the Joker come to life again. My smile says it all, you know what that means.“
In an interview with Vanity Fair, Keoghan indirectly nodded to his wish to play the iconic character again. The site asked him:
“Looking ahead, you’ve got the miniseries Masters of the Air, and you’re also playing the Joker in DC’s The Batman 2. What do you want your career to look like going forward?”
Despite not giving a direct response, the actor almost gave a clear hint as he did not deny the claim.
The 2022 release of The Batman, which is almost three hours long, managed to earn a total revenue of $771 million and critical praise as well.
