Marvel superhero movie Deadpool & Wolverine has just started its run at the box office. On the other hand, James Gunn, the DC Co-CEO has recently gave yet another update on his upcoming superhero film Superman starring David Corenswet. So, fans think the old rivalry between these two juggernaut studios will be more fired up in the coming years. At such a time, Marvel President Kevin Feige shared his thoughts on this age-old Marvel–DC rivalry in his recent interview with Cinemablend.
Kevin Feige Comments On Marvel-DC Competition
The longstanding competition between Marvel and DC Comics has captivated audiences for decades. While fervent fanbases often passionately debate the merits of their preferred universe, the reality is that both companies have significantly shaped the comic book industry.
In a recent interview with Cinemablend, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige expressed a surprisingly amicable stance towards DC’s cinematic endeavors. Rather than viewing them as adversaries, Feige emphasized the importance of a thriving cinematic landscape.
He believes that a multitude of high-quality films benefits the entire industry, drawing more people to theaters and rekindling the magic of the big screen experience. Feige even acknowledged the broad appeal of superhero movies, suggesting that many casual moviegoers may not be deeply invested in the intricacies of the Marvel and DC universes. To illustrate his point, he humorously shared a recent encounter where someone congratulated him on the success of Warner Bros.’ Blue Beetle, a clear case of mistaken identity.
“I’ve always said yes. Because number one, I want to see great movies. And number two, I want there to be great movies in theaters for audiences to go to. And in between our movies, be reminded that going to the movies is an incredible and singular emotional activity. So the more great movies there are… Twisters this weekend is overperforming. I haven’t seen it yet, but I can’t wait to. So that’s exciting. And then when it comes to the distinguished competition, as they say, a lot of people don’t know the difference. Somebody just said, ‘Congrats on Blue Beetle’ to me! People don’t know.”
It’s worth noting that Blue Beetle was one of the final films produced under the previous DC Extended Universe (DCEU) regime. As James Gunn and Peter Safran take the reins of the DC Universe (DCU), fans can expect a fresh direction for the franchise. However, while the cinematic landscape is shifting, the character of Blue Beetle is expected to remain within the DC fold.
Kevin Feige Has Seen Superman Photos
James Gunn‘s Superman movie is also creating the hype ever since the announcement. Frequent updates from Gunn and few set photos leaked built the excitement among fans. And Kevin Feige has seen some of these paparazzi photos.
The project recently kicked off its outdoor filming schedule in Cleveland, Ohio, generating significant buzz online. Images from the set, featuring the main cast including David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, and others, quickly spread like wildfire across social media platforms.
Amidst the excitement surrounding the project, Kevin Feige expressed his enthusiasm for the film. In the same interview, Feige praised Gunn’s directorial prowess, stating that the leaked set photos looked incredibly promising. Feige’s endorsement of Gunn’s work is a testament to the director’s reputation for delivering high-quality cinematic experiences.
“I’ve seen the paparazzi shots that I’m sure everybody else has seen. It looks great to me. James is the best.”
While official stills from the Superman movie remain scarce, with only a solitary image of David Corenswet in costume surfacing thus far, the leaked set photos have certainly generated a positive buzz. Fans and industry insiders alike are eagerly anticipating the film’s release, scheduled for July 11, 2025.
