What's Inside?
- James Gunn confirms Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman will reunite—but not in the next DCU film.
- A new Wonder Woman movie is officially in development, separate from HBO Max’s Paradise Lost series.
- Justice League plans are part of Gunn’s larger DCU vision, but the team’s return will unfold gradually.
As the DC Universe embarks on a new chapter under James Gunn’s creative leadership, anticipation is sky-high for what lies ahead beyond Superman. While the Man of Steel’s solo run will lead the charge, fans are eager to witness a reunion of DC’s iconic trinity — Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman. And guess what, it has just got a promising but surprising update. Of course, the trio will return, but Gunn isn’t rushing into that moment just yet. But for now, the wait continues.
James Gunn Gives Huge Update On Superman, Batman, And Wonder Woman Reunion

During a recent conversation with Deadline, Gunn confirmed that a reunion of the beloved trio is indeed on the horizon. When asked directly if Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman will share the screen again, his response was enthusiastic but cautious, “Of course, yeah! But, not in the next movie.” Undoubtedly, Gunn is playing a long game in his big DCU revamp.
The rebooted Superman, set to release on July 11, will serve as the official launch of the DCU’s first live-action film under the Gods and Monsters banner. David Corenswet takes up the cape, but his story won’t immediately spiral into a Justice League-style crossover. Instead, Gunn is focused on introducing and re-establishing characters with breathing room.
The plan includes titles like Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, which he confirms is designed to stand alone. Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Gunn shared—
“I am really trying to be careful that anybody can dip in and see the story that is up next and not feel like they’re missing information.”
However, there’s no denying a larger arc is quietly forming. “The most important thing is the specific stories, but there is also a much bigger story that we’re telling that will take a little bit longer to tell,” Gunn shared.
While the early titles are being shaped with accessibility in mind, they are all threads weaving into a larger DCU narrative that’s still unfolding — and yes, Justice League is part of that vision, albeit later. “Of course, of course,” Gunn teased when asked about the team’s eventual return. “But there is no Justice League in this world… not yet.”
Wonder Woman’s Future and Batman’s Place in James Gunn’s DCU

Among the most anticipated questions is who will wield the Lasso of Truth in this new era. Gunn confirms that a Wonder Woman movie is currently in development, separate from the previously announced Paradise Lost Max series. “Wonder Woman’s being written right now,” he revealed, though a star has yet to be cast. Gal Gadot, who portrayed Diana Prince through the SnyderVerse, is not expected to reprise the role.
That uncertainty led to buzz surrounding Hit Man star Adria Arjona, after fans noticed Gunn following her on Instagram. Gunn addressed the rumor in an interview with Extra, clarifying: “She’d be a great Wonder Woman, by the way.” He added that they’ve been friends since she starred in The Belko Experiment, a film Gunn wrote and produced. “I followed her then, I didn’t just follow her,” he clarified.
Arjona, on her part, spoke fondly of Gunn earlier this year to CinemaBlend, saying, “I love James Gunn… I owe him a lot.” When asked directly if she might be the next Wonder Woman, she only smiled and crossed her fingers. Whether that becomes reality remains to be seen, but the excitement is very real.
On the Batman front, Gunn acknowledges no casting has been finalized. Robert Pattinson will continue to helm Matt Reeves’ Batman Epic Crime Saga, which exists outside of the main DCU timeline. Gunn told EW:
“What Matt’s doing is still really important, despite all stories to the contrary. We’re supposed to see that script shortly, and I can’t wait.”
While Pattinson’s The Dark Knight continues his own path in The Batman Part II, Gunn is still crafting a distinct Batman for the core DCU. He confirmed he feels “great” about where Superman and Supergirl stand, but Batman and Wonder Woman are still in progress.
James Gunn’s Justice League Is Coming But…

James Gunn is building his DCU with a clear sense of patience and purpose. The upcoming films and series — from Lanterns to Peacemaker and recently released Creature Commandos — are laying the groundwork for something massive. All these elements may point toward a new Justice League.
For longtime fans, that’s enough to keep hope alive. The DCU’s trinity will return — just not all at once. And with Gunn at the helm, it won’t be a repeat of what came before. It’ll be something far different, like he did with Superman. And for the “but” in question, it is the uncertain wait fans must endure to see the reunion of the DC trio.
Superman will hit the theaters on July 11.
