Fans have seen John Bradley in Game Of Thrones as meek as his character Samwell Tarly demanded him to be. Undoubtedly, the actor pulled off the essence of the charter with ease but Tarly was pole apart from what the actor actually is in real life. Rather, he is closer to his 3 Body Problem character.

3 Body Problem creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss (alongside Alexander Woo) who have also been the creators of HBO’s acclaimed and popular series Game Of Thrones specifically designed Jack Rooney for John Bradley— the actor could see his reflection in the character. “They said, ‘It’s as close to yourself as any character you’ll ever play,’” Bradley said (via Variety). If you are wondering how Bradley is in real life, 3 Body Problem will give you the perfect answer, literally the actor kind of played just another version of himself.

For the Game Of Thrones alum, Rooney was “kind of a daunting prospect. It’s a bit like you’re going to see yourself drawn by one of those caricature artists on the street.” The actor was roped into the role out of sheer curiosity for the character, “I’m going to find out what these highly perceptive, very bright people think I am as a person,” he added.

Bradley’s Rooney, one of the Oxford Five— a group of brilliant physicists the alien forces are haunting to slow the progression of the civilization— was polar apart from Samwell Tarly. Rooney swears cuss words, does nerdy things, and lives lavishly— all sorts of traits his character possesses, the actor said was the mirror of his life. “He’s the character that mostly plows his own furrow,” Bradley said of his character in the mind-bending sci-fi epic. “A little bit like me, he’s come from a working-class background, and he’s over-achieved in life. As a result, he’s determined to look everybody in the eye and not do what he’s told,” he added.

Of course, Bradley is not a scientist but the resemblance of him with Rooney moves almost in a parallel line.

The English actor further reflected on his character in Netflix’s hit show. “We cut people down if we suspect they’re starting to believe in their own bullshit,” he said drawing a parallel line in an attempt to compare himself with his character. However, the cinematic purpose has also altered some striking resemblance, the actor admitted the difference, “Jack is the side of myself that I’d like to be all the time. I do worry if I’ve said the wrong thing.” He added, “Jack doesn’t mind the consequences of what he says if he believes it to be true. It was very freeing, actually.”

“When you’re a kid, you can imagine that you’re anywhere you want to be. As you get older, you just become more self-conscious. You have to unlearn a lot of those barriers that you’ve put in place and contact a childlike side of your imagination.”

Unfortunately, [SPOILER ALERT!] Rooney was killed off which kind of closed the doors for Bradley to reappear in the show if Netflix greenlights the hit series for a second season.

3 Body Problem is now streaming on Netflix.
