Elizabeth Olsen’s Marvel tenure as Wanda Maximoff has been tremendous. Her character has seemingly died in Doctor Strange 2 but we can’t say for sure and that’s a good thing as the actor might just return with all her magic in the future MCU project, perhaps Secret Wars? Still, Olsen’s run in Marvel Studios made her one of the biggest stars in the industry. She got her own series with Paul Bettany’s Vision for Disney Plus and she described the show as her “career curveball.”

WandaVision has paved the way for later Marvel series Agatha All Along which is set to debut Disney Plus. But for Elizabeth Olsen, the series has been a rollercoaster. “My career curveball was Wandavision,” Olsen told Harpers Bazar in her promotional tour for her recent flick His Three Daughters for Netflix starring alongside Natasha Lyonne and Carrie Coon. “No one forced me to do that! I have made a choice to continue on with Marvel, and they’ve made a choice to continue on with me,” the actor added.

However, she was scared of doing the project, especially for television, “I was really scared about doing a Marvel project for TV,” she explained, “because these are otherworldly, larger-than-life characters that are seen in films, and I didn’t know if it would still work on a television at home.” Thankfully, she never lost confidence, “I had confidence in the format because the storytelling really honored the TV medium.”

It worked, the show has landed a stunning 92% Rotten Tomatoes score with astonishingly high viewership from the show’s nine-episode run.

Olsen was not sure how WandaVision would impact the audience, when the show finally debuted Disney Plus, the actor was really surprised as fans embraced the show with open arms. “We really felt we were Marvel’s weird cousin,” she said of her character with Paul Bettany’s Vision in WandaVision.

“We didn’t know it was going to have such a response. It came out during the pandemic and it almost had way more relevance to everyone’s lives; [we were all] trying to function in these bubbles that we were put in, and then there was this world outside of a bubble. No one even knew what reality was at that point!”

Now, it is hard to say if Olsen who completed a decade in the Marvel Studios last year, would return again as there has not been any report of the studios keeping anything for her character on the plate. Still, the very saga of the narrative is expanding with Kathryn Hahn-led Agatha All Along and of course, a Vision series (previously titled Vision Quest) is in the works. Recently, James Spader who played Ultron in Avengers: Age of Ultron was confirmed to return to the Vision series. Also, most recently THR confirmed that Todd Stashwick has joined the cast of Bettany’s highly anticipated show. Terry Matalas will take the role of showrunner in the WandaVision spinoff.
