Channing Tatum’s cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine as Gambit was not just for the hilarious outburst, it also added a complementary tribute to the actor who has put his nose to the grindstone to have his solo Gambit movie under the banner of 20th Century Fox. However, Disney’s (Marvel Studios’ parent company) acquisition of 20th Century Fox changed everything. Now, Tatum is hopeful to get back to living his long-forgotten dream.
Channing Tatum Is Still Dreaming For His Standalone Gambit Movie
It is no secret that Channing Tatum has moved heaven and earth to get his solo Gambit movie and that almost happened but following Disney’s acquisition of Fox, the project was forgotten and lost into oblivion. However, Ryan Reynolds who played Deadpool in the wildly popular cinematic franchise recognized his effort and gave a sweet edge to Deadpool & Wolverine adding Tatum among the astonishing cameos. Tatum got to play Gambit, the character he was dying to play on the big screen.
Tatum, recently shared that he is not over the character just yet. “I sure hope so,” he told Variety’s Marc Malkin when asked about playing Gambit again at Thursday’s premiere of his latest movie Blink Twice at the DGA in West Hollywood. “From your mouth to God’s ears. Write it into existence, my friend. Please,” the actor added.
The 44-year-old further revealed that he has already talked to Marvel about it. “I’ve course I’ve said it. I’ve been saying I want it for the last 10 years,” The Lost City actor shared. “It’s in Bob Iger and Kevin Feige’s hands. I pray to God.”
It is still a possibility for Tatum to have his Marvel character appear in different Marvel projects considering Marvel Boss Kevin Feige’s declaration of the beginning of Mutant Era but getting a solo Gambit movie is still far-fetched. However, if Marvel decides to do a Gambit movie with Tatum, it could be huge.
Channing Tatum Thanked Ryan Reynolds And Shawn Levy For Making His Gambit Dream A Reality
Not so long ago, Channing Tatum took to his Instagram to celebrate his time in the Deadpool & Wolverine and showered his appreciation for Ryan Reynolds and Shawn Levy. He wound back the clock to when it was nearly a decade ago that he first saw Ryan bring the first Deadpool movie to the world, “I think I just hugged him and was like, holy shit you did it, man. It’s perfect.” He said, praising how Ryan had nailed the role of this iconic character.
Although Tatum didn’t know Reynolds that well at the time, years went by, and their relationship became much stronger. Tatum shared how much Ryan has had his back in the industry, even sharing that the Deadpool star fought for him to keep the role of Gambit. “I thought I had lost Gambit forever. But he fought for me and Gambit. I will owe him probably forever,” Tatum said of his support.
He went on to praise Shawn Levy as well, calling him a “brilliant creator on every single level,” and said just how pumped he is for the movie to come out, calling it “a masterpiece” filled with “pure badass joy.” The excitement could be palpably felt as Tatum revealed his theatrical experience, “I was literally screaming in the theatre. LFG!!”
Deadpool & Wolverine is now showing in theaters.
