Colin Jost has finally broken his silence on those eyebrow-raising red carpet kisses between his wife, Scarlett Johansson, and her Jurassic World Rebirth co-star, Jonathan Bailey. As the film continues its global box office run, the public couldn’t stop buzzing about the affectionate greetings exchanged by Johansson and Bailey at both the London and New York premieres. But Jost isn’t rattled. In fact, his witty response is turning just as many heads as the kiss itself.
Colin Jost’s Humor Defuses the Internet Buzz Over Wife Scarlett Johansson’s Red Carpet Kisses With Jonathan Bailey

In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, the Saturday Night Live star addressed the viral smooches between his wife and the Bridgerton actor, and he did it the only way he knows how, with sharp comedy and a little perspective. “I guess in Jurassic Park terms, the attack always comes from the raptor you never thought was there. Of all the threats out there, I wasn’t thinking it was Jonathan,” Jost joked.

The buzz began at the London premiere on June 16, where Johansson, 40, and Bailey, 37, greeted each other with a kiss. Just days later, they did it again at the New York premiere— this time with Jost standing just a few feet away. Instead of drama, Jost responded with levity, “Jonathan and I, at the red carpet, we were like, ‘I guess we have to kiss now? Is that what happens? Close the loop?’”
Importantly, Jost reminded fans that “Jonathan is an out gay man. It didn’t seem like the biggest threat.” He added, “People really blow it out of proportion when someone kisses their friend hello.” The public’s overanalysis of a friendly gesture wasn’t something Jost expected to become a talking point, but he handled it with calm and a touch of sarcasm.
Scarlett Johansson and Jonathan Bailey Call It Friendly Affection

For their part, both Johansson and Bailey have been consistent in describing the red carpet kisses as nothing more than affectionate greetings between friends. “We’re just friendly people,” Johansson said during a June appearance on the Today show. When co-host Craig Melvin called Bailey “attractive,” she laughed and said, “Yeah, you said it!” She went on to say, “He’s a lovable guy, what can I say?… I’ve got a lot of love to give.”
Bailey also shared his reaction during his own chat with ET, saying, “I believe in being able to show love in all different ways. And if you can’t kiss your friends … life’s too short not to.”
Jost and Johansson, who married in 2020 and share a 3-year-old son named Cosmo, seem to have no shortage of trust or affection. Just this May, the two shared their own public kiss at the Cannes Film Festival during the debut of Johansson’s directorial effort, Eleanor the Great. It was a tender moment that stood in contrast to the fan-fueled hysteria that followed her playful interactions with Bailey.
Adding a final touch of perspective, Jost quipped about the unexpected media frenzy, “Of all the things I didn’t expect to become a story, it was this.”
In Jurassic World Rebirth, Johansson stars as mercenary Zora Bennett alongside Bailey’s brilliant paleontologist, Dr. Henry Loomis.
Jurassic World Rebirth is now playing in theaters.
