Dafne Keen returns. Marvel fans have long anticipated the return of Keen’s Logan character, Laura also known as, X-23. Daughter of Hugh Jackman’s Logan, Laura was one of the primary characters of the 2017 movie that was supposed to retire Jackman’s Wolverine. Jackman made a stunning return in Deadpool & Wolverine debuting MCU from 20th Century Fox alongside Ryan Reynolds but Keen has previously kept her cameo a huge secret in the third Deadpool movie until now.
Dafne Keen Kept Her Deadpool & Wolverine Secret That Was Inspired By A Spider-Man Actor
Dafne Keen has been pretty ambiguous about her cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine. Judging by her previous statements, fans were almost sure that she would not appear as Laura, Wolverine’s daughter in the upcoming Marvel slate set to hit the theaters in a week.
Marvel Entertainment, however, dropped the final trailer for the highly anticipated movie a week before its release. The trailer gave away a pretty clear picture of what the movie is going to be but most importantly, it unveiled Keen’s cameo.
SUGGESTED: ‘He is the master of this’: Dafne Keen Learned The Art Of Secrecy From 1 Of The Spider-Man Actors
Keen, who kept it a secret until now, had a chat with Entertainment Weekly, sharing that she had fun keeping it a big secret and she was inspired by Andrew Garfield who was also pretty ambiguous about his rumored appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home but finally shared the screen with Tobey Maguire and Tom Holland. “I had a great time keeping it secret. I had to do a bunch of press for a job that I just finished,” Keen told EW. “I got asked in every interview, and I just got to lie, which was really funny.”
She went on to thank Garfield, “All the inspo comes from Andrew Garfield,” Keen told the outlet. “He is the master at this,” she added.
Dafne Keen Said She Almost Forgot How To Play X-23
Keen, in the same interview with EW, shared that she almost forgot how to play Laura again. It’s understandable, she was just 11 when she surprised fans with her stunning performance in James Mangold’s Logan that killed off Wolverine in the end. But she had always wanted to have more from the character. “It was very much a reality that then kind of fell through,” she told the outlet. “There were talks of a script being made. I’d heard it was an X-23 [movie]. I dunno how much of what I’m saying is true because I was 11, but this is what I’d heard through the grapevine,” Keen added.
But when it came to reprising her role, Keen was also kept in the dark for a while by her agent while negotiating for a month. The 19-year-old actor went on to star in HBO’s His Dark Materials and Disney’s Star Wars series The Acolyte when she finally got the call for her X-Men role for the second time. “I immediately screamed,” Keen shared her excitement. “I dropped my phone in the bath. I had to put it in rice; it was a whole thing.”
However, jumping directly into the shoes of the fan-favorite character after nearly eight years was no cakewalk. “I was a bit freaked out,” Keen said of returning to the role in Deadpool & Wolverine. “I was like, ‘I will have forgotten how to play her. She’s not in me anymore.’ We went straight into this pretty intense scene. I know I was freaking out. As soon as they said, ‘Rolling!’ I really felt like we were back doing Logan. It was like eight years hadn’t passed,” Keen added.
Further, the actor shared that she rewatched Logan to get the hang of her role again. Regardless, Keen’s return to the character in Marvel’s anticipated blockbuster was a treat for fans.
Deadpool & Wolverine hits theaters on July 26.
