Days before the film’s release, Deadpool & Wolverine released a brand-new trailer that features a huge, unexpected comeback. In the clip, Dafne Keen appears again, most likely as X-23, and she can be seen talking with Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine. In 2017’s Logan, Keen portrayed the youthful mutant X-23 opposite Hugh Jackman in a memorable role. The actress gave credit to an MCU “master” secret keeper to hide her involvement. She detailed about where she learned how to keep things under wraps in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly

Dafne Keen Reveals Andrew Garfield’s Influence on Her Secret Marvel Return

Dafne Keen‘s return to the Marvel universe in Deadpool & Wolverine was inspired by none other than Spider-Man actor Andrew Garfield. Garfield, along with Tobey Maguire, surprised fans by reprising their roles as Peter Parker in Spider-Man: No Way Home

Similarly, Deadpool & Wolverine has generated excitement with its anticipated returns and rumored cameos. One significant cameo, involving Dafne Keen’s character Laura Kinney / X-23 from 2017’s Logan, was revealed in the final trailer. Keen has shared her thoughts on reuniting with Wolverine star Hugh Jackman and how Garfield influenced her ability to keep her Marvel return a secret.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Dafne Keen discussed her experience maintaining secrecy about her role in Deadpool & Wolverine. She expressed enjoyment in keeping the secret, especially while promoting her role in the Disney+ Star Wars series The Acolyte

Keen commented, “I had a great time keeping it secret. I had to do a bunch of press for a job that I just finished. I got asked in every interview, and I just got to lie, which was really funny.”

Keen credited Andrew Garfield for teaching her how to keep her Marvel involvement under wraps. She mentioned, “All the inspo comes from Andrew Garfield. He is the master at this.”

SUGGESTED: ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Is The First R-rated MCU Film, But Ryan Reynolds Allowed His 9-Year-Old Daughter To Watch It

Previously, Garfield had strongly denied donning the Spider-Man suit again for the 2021 movie that unleashed the “Multiverse of Madness” into Tom Holland’s character Peter Parker’s world.

I am not [in No Way Home], the Tick, Tick… Boom!” the actor told GQ in an interview. When asked if he would be playing Spider-Man again in the WIRED Autocomplete interview, Garfield exclaimed. When No Way Home eventually hit theaters ten days later, Andrew Garfield was back in the role of the adored web crawler.

Reflecting on her return as X-23, Keen shared that she had always hoped to reprise her role as Logan’s clone. She recalled hearing about the possibility of an X-23 movie when she was younger. “It was very much a reality that then kind of fell through,” she noted. “There were talks of a script being made. I’d heard it was an X-23 [movie]. I dunno how much of what I’m saying is true because I was 11, but this is what I’d heard through the grapevine.”

After Disney acquired 20th Century Fox, all X-Men projects at the time were canceled. Keen admitted feeling disappointed, saying, “I was quite sad. I was like, ‘Oh well, I guess that’s it. That’s life, and I’ll have to move on’ — even though this is one of the greatest characters I’ll ever get to play, and annoyingly, I got to play her at 11! I peaked at 11.

SUGGESTED: ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Camera Tests Left Grown Men ‘Sobbing’ Thanks To 1 Kevin Feige’s Subtle Demand

Keen hinted that her character would participate in action scenes and potentially wear her iconic comic-book costume. She shared, “The first thing I did for ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ was stunt training before I shot anything. I put on the costume and was like, ‘Oh! She’s back.’”

Whether Keen will wear a yellow and blue mask similar to Logan’s remains to be seen.

Deadpool & Wolverine releases in theaters on July 26, 2024
