Edgar Wright was fascinated by the new George Miller movie Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga starring Last Night in Soho star Anya Taylor-Joy and MCU veteran Chris Hemsworth. After having the opportunity to watch the Miller movie ahead of its release, the Last Night in Soho director hailed the upcoming dystopian sci-fi and his open letter to the maker of the brilliant franchise would propel you to be more excited for Furiosa.

George Miller’s Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga has created an astounding buzz since the announcement of the movie and with the release of the trailer, the hype has just accelerated to a more engrossing level. Adding to the existing hype, Edgar Wright who has iconic movies including Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, and Baby Driver to his credit, recently took to X to share his thoughts on Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga.

“Even though I understand what it takes to make a film, I still don’t understand how Dr. George Miller does it. I was lucky enough to see ‘Furiosa’ a month ago, and I’m still reeling at how films like his exist. It’s so intricate, detailed, and immersive. The planning and love that have gone into the staging, blocking, and design are just unreal. Hats off to George and team for giving us 45 years of imaginative, visceral cinema. The movie is a feast for your eyes and ears, a full circle to the first Max adventure in 1979,” Wright wrote.

The acclaimed director went on to add the inherent meaning behind the subtitle of the movie and how it fits to the upcoming Mad Max prequel.

Also, the subtitle, he added, “‘A Mad Max Saga’, is not wrong as this is a revenge epic, more than a chase movie like ‘Fury Road’. The closest comparison was something like ‘Ben Hur’ – where a long fuse of revenge burns for years and pays off with (no spoiler) the sweetest vengeance. Filmmakers and fans will leave with their heads spinning. I felt both inspired and envious! There was a point during a midway set piece where I leant over to a friend and said, “How the f—ck does he do this?”

It would be criminal to doubt the prowess of Miller. The director has established the grand sandy dystopian world with his immaculate vision in the franchise.

Edgar Wright Is Proud Of Anya Taylor-Joy

Wright collaborated with Anya Taylor-Joy in the 2021 horror mystery, Last Night in Soho. Of course, Taylor-Joy has been one of the most talented and sought-after actors of recent times with an astounding resume of titles including The Witch, EMMA., and 2020 hit Netflix drama series, The Queen’s Gambit. Wright praised the cast of Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga saying, “Of course, the cast is amazing. Chris Hemsworth has never been better, Tom Burke is a brooding rugged presence recalling the original Road Warrior himself.” The director further revealed that he is proud of seeing Taylor-Joy leading the movie, “And as for Anya, I’m so excited and proud to see her lighting up the screen.”

The director also revealed an interesting titbit regarding the casting of Taylor-Joy in Miller’s sci-fi and it all started right before the global lockdown after the devastating Covid-19 pandemic.

“Way back in March 2020, literally 48 hours before the pandemic shutdown happened and the country shut down, I had dinner with George Miller in London after he watched an early cut of ‘Last Night In Soho’. He asked me if Anya would be a good choice to play young Furiosa, and I responded, ‘Do it, do it! She’s a star, get her now!’. I texted Anya that night to expect a call from George Miller, and I’m so thrilled to see the results four years later. What a ride, you will enjoy!”

Now, looking at the trailer and her first look, Taylor-Joy certainly looks riveting and fitting to the role as Miller intended. Obviously, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga will be another astounding addition to her glorious credit as an actor.

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is scheduled for 23 May 2024 release.
