Legendary British actress Miriam Margolyes recently revealed that she has turned down Kathryn Hahn-led Disney Plus series Agatha. However, she had more than one reason to turn down the role.
Miriam Margolyes Turned Down A Role In MCU’s Agatha
Miriam Margolyes played Pomona Sprout in the Harry Potter franchise. The actor recently revealed that she was offered a huge role by superhero brand, Marvel Studios but she had to turn it down. In her recent book, Oh Miriam! – Stories from an Extraordinary Life, the actor has put several extraordinary instances of her life including rejecting the MCU role. Appearing in a chat with news.com.au’s Andrew Bucklow, the actor detailed about the role in the Kathryn Hahn-led Disney+ show, Agatha: Coven of Chaos.
“They contacted me and said, ‘we’re doing a story about witches.’ I thought, ‘Oh god, not witches again, because I’ve done that with Harry Potter’”
Her reluctance to appear as a witch again on the screen was not the only reason. The actor was also not in line with the project being filmed in Atlanta, Georgia. “I don’t like America and I didn’t want to be in Georgia for four months,” she added.
“So I just said, ‘well, I want a million pounds (A$1.9 million)’ and they said, ‘you can have half a million’, and I said, ‘no, I don’t want to do it’, so it just stopped. Really it’s a story about my own greed rather than anything else.”
Marvel Studios was not wrong in seeking the legendary actor in the project. Sadly, it didn’t happen. Agatha: Coven Of Chaos is currently in production.

While many actors cherish their dream of joining superhero brands, Margolyes will not go down the road without having the pie with her demand. Marvel Studios offered the actor a huge sum but it was not enough, she even admitted it candidly. Now, her comments on rejecting the Marvel role have surprised fans or rather made them chuckle.

Turning down the role in the brand was just the tip of the iceberg in Margolyes’ life as she revealed that her life is filled with several such extraordinary instances.
Margolyes book, Oh Miriam! – Stories from an Extraordinary Life will be available on shelves from September 12.
Agatha: Coven of Chaos is scheduled to premiere on Disney+ in late 2024.
