Jennifer Lopez’s sci-fi action, Atlas was highly anticipated among fans after the singer/actor’s previous Netflix movie The Mother’s decent success but her new movie on the platform failed to impress the critics. Altas made a disastrous Rotten Tomatoes debut with only a 14% score which later decreased to 8%.

Brad Peyton-directed sci-fi action thriller set in space starring Jennifer Lopez in the lead has met the harshest responses from critics as the movie joined the league of lowest-rated movies. Here are the top reviews from critics of the movie—

“Netflix’s new epic Atlas is like putting together every cliché in the sci-fi book (including Hollywood’s obsession with apocalyptic AI) without a clue of how to mash them into something worth viewers’ time.” — Mireia Mullor, Digital Spy.

“A dearth of original ideas undercuts the appeal of ‘Atlas,’ leaving Lopez to fend for herself in much the same way her character is forced to in the film’s formulaic story. — Todd Gilchrist, Variety.

“There is nothing of value in this AI propaganda affront to cinema, humanity, and artistic creativity.” — Robert Kojder, Flickering Myth.

“While not a strong film to begin with, “Atlas” loses its way with a more emotional approach, as Peyton ultimately goes for feels instead of dystopian fury in this mediocre endeavor.” — Brian Orndorf, Blu-ray.com.

“Hidden somewhere beneath all the generic dialogue, embarrassing plot, mediocre action and oddly ineffective performances, there’s a good idea in Brad Peyton’s ‘Atlas.’ It’s a shame the filmmakers never found it.” — William Bibbiani, TheWrap.

The reviews on Atlas have certainly diminished the very impression of the movie following the remarkable hype the movie has put to push it among fans. The movie also stars Simu Liu, Sterling K. Brown, and Mark Strong.

Jennifer Lopez plays Atlas, a data analyst on a mission to a distant planet in the sci-fi adventure to capture an AI terrorist who has been a threat to Earth, (Not a SPOILER, it’s a basic synopsis of the movie). “It is a set in the future and Atlas is kind of disconnected kind of very to herself data analyst,” JLo explained her character during a chat with TODAY’s Richard Wilkins.

She is trying to capture “an AI terrorist right at the beginning it’s a beautiful story it’s sci-fi action but with a very kind of moving story about an AI and this woman coming together and helping each other through this situation and the two of them both becoming a little more human along the way.”

While discussing the driving force behind JLo’s roping into the project, the singer/actor revealed that the script of the movie written by Leo Sardarian and Aron Eli Coleite, made her cry. “When I read the script I really loved it I cried at the end,” Lopez revealed.

“I really felt like there was something about Atlas that I understood in a weird way even though she’s not like me she’s not emotionally available but I liked her I understood her ideas about people being disappointing and not trusting Ai and all that kind of stuff you know so those are things that I empathize with her on.”

In this regard, it is worth mentioning that Atlas might be a Netflix hit despite the responses from critics. Recently, Madam Web has done wonders on Netflix after the disastrous theatrical run and devastating reviews but the audience score was decent. With that note, Atlas has a stunning 71% audience score, so, it is not unimaginable for the movie to hit big among fans.
