Benedict Cumberbatch and Gaby Hoffmann starrer Netflix psychological thriller Eric has landed on the streamer. The six-part British miniseries created by Abi Morgan follows an emotional roller coaster after the central characters, Cumberbatch’s Vincent Anderson and Cassie Anderson played by Hoffmann after their son Edgar (Ivan Morris) went missing one day when he was on the route to school. Following the devastating event, the Anderson couple went through psychological trauma but even before that, their marriage was failing which led to an intense argument.

For Gaby Hoffmann, “it was shockingly easy to start fighting” with her co-star Benedict Cumberbatch “right off the bat,” she jokingly told Comingsoon.net. But on a serious note, the actor gave much-deserved credit to the writing of Abi Morgan, the creator of the show, and Lucy Forbes’ brilliant direction. “But we talked a little bit about it leading in. We found a lot of it on our feet, of course, but it wasn’t too hard. The sort of nuts and bolts of where they were and why they were there made a lot of sense to us,” she explained.

The 42-year-old further said, “I think we implicitly understood who they were to each other in this moment.” It was not very hard to dive into the character and the scene for Hoffmann, “it was really just navigating the sort of details of the minutia, but it was a world that felt available pretty immediately.”

The actor alongside Cumberbatch landed just on the right spot for the argument scene in the show. It was a catalyst for the progression of the narrative and the director’s vision provided the desired effect for the scene.

Benedict Cumberbatch is one of the most capable actors of the era. The Marvel star who plays Doctor Strange in the superhero franchise details on how he landed on the scene. “I guess because there’s a sort of gradation of state and mental health and the developing crisis outside of the marriage that’s helping to implode it,” Cumberbatch told Comingsoon.net. “It was really important to sort of navigate that and not be too shouty all the time,” he added.

The English actor went on to add that the staging of the scene on the emotional level was not that easy, “where the elements of real danger, physicality, the staging of it was difficult. It was our first few weeks.” Of course it was not impossible to manifest into the essence of it, he explained, “I mean, it wasn’t difficult in the sense that, as Gaby’s saying, there was something very fluid about it, but in a TV schedule to sort of land a 10-year history falling apart in the first weeks, it’s the name of the game. It’s one of those things you just have to get on and do.”

For the actor, working with Morgan and Forbes in “this one is an absolute dream, dream, dream, dream come true.”

Eric is now streaming exclusively on Netflix.
