The New Netflix sci-fi show, 3 Body Problem has taken the world by storm as it has pushed the boundaries of the imagination of fans. It was designed to be a show that no one had ever experienced in a long-long time. It has all the freshness and unique appeal to it. Christopher Nolan’s biggest movie to date, Oppenheimer has been the biggest talk of recent times. The movie was not just a box office marvel but it went on to become a critical darling claiming seven Oscars at the 96th Academy Awards.

While Nolan gifted the world a meticulous insight into one of the most important historical figures, the movie has helped the 3 Body Problem Creators in a big way. When Benedict Wong’s Da Shi was inspecting the murder of a scientist, the scene looked closer to the death of Oppenheimer’s mistress. “Oppenheimer’s mistress died the same way. On her knees, head in a tub,” Wong’s Da Shi said in the scene.
Florence Pugh plays Oppenheimer’s mistress, Jean Tatlock in Nolan’s 2023 masterpiece. While Nolan refrained from giving a clear clue as to whether it was suicide or murder, the scene definitely revealed a similarity in the posture of the victims. However, the creators of 3 Body Problem were unsure if the world gets the reference. Thanks to Nolan for releasing Oppenheimer ahead of the sci-fi show debuting on Netflix.
3 Body Problem Creators Reflected on ‘Oppenheimer’s Mistress’ Reference

It was certainly immaculate but the writers have made a compelling reference to the scene of the murder Da Shi was investigating following the mystery riddled his department or the world as scientists have committed suicide under mysterious circumstances. Reflecting on the scene, David Benioff, executive producer and showrunner of 3 Body Problem revealed in an episode of Netflix: Behind the Streams, When we first shot the scene, “I thought, ‘How many people are gonna know this?’ And now, thanks to Christopher Nolan, it’s…”
His co-creator, D. B. Weiss added to the explanation saying that it was a “Very big, very well-made explanation of this moment.”
In its essence, it is worth noting that the show has given subtle references on many occasions or even recreated several instances in history with simulated reality infusing modern and historical periods for the benefit of aliens.
