Deadpool & Wolverine is set out to be the biggest theatrical spectacle of the year with Hugh Jackman joining Deadpool in the upcoming Shawn Levy-directed movie. Of course, Jackman’s return to the movie was a huge surprise for every Marvel fan after the demise of his character in Logan. However, Jackman wanted to come back to his titular X-Men character, at least one more time but Marvel boss Kevin Feige was quite skeptical of his return.
Kevin Feige Asked Hugh Jackman Not To Return
There would not be much of a debate on the fact that Hugh Jackman had the grandest farewell in MCU history, at least, Kevin Feige had all the reasons to believe it. The Marvel Boss was nervous about the return of the character and gave Jackman a piece of advice. “I said, ‘Let me give you a piece of advice, Hugh. Don’t come back,’” Feige told Empire.
Feige’s skepticism was definitely valid from his point of view, being the boss of a grand cinematic universe would obviously propel anyone to have doubt. In Jackman’s case, Feige perhaps, feared that people would not embrace the character again as his finale was itself a huge story arc. “‘You had the greatest ending in history with Logan. That’s not something we should undo,’” Feige added.
Jackman, the X-Men veteran was able to prove Feige wrong and as far as the teasing of the movie goes, the Australian star has shined doing what he does best. After all, Deadpool & Wolverine would mark 24 years of playing the character. It is a reign hard that has forged a legacy with astounding accolades. For Feige’s assurance, the Deadpool & Wolverine version of the character is reportedly going to be totally different from the previous version in X-Men. Even the Marvel boss said, “Correct” confirming the same.
Hugh Jackman Longed For Wolverine’s Return Like A Romantic
The Greatest Showman actor was not done with his X-Men character. Like a romantic hero, he kept longing for the character to live and breathe it again. “I was about an hour into the drive,” Jackman recalled.
“And that question came into my head: ‘What do I want to do?’ And as soon as I asked the question, I wanted to do Deadpool & Wolverine. I just knew it. I drove for another hour. Couldn’t stop thinking about it. And I got out of the car, called Ryan, and said, ‘Ryan, if you’ll have me, I’m in.’”
With his return, the 55-year-old has something different to play with despite the character. Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds previously stated that they have wanted a Deadpool & Wolverine movie to happen for decades. “We’ve wanted to this, this for decades…it’s weirdly the perfect time,” Reynolds said (via Variety).
“I never stopped [trying to get him to come back as Wolverine]. I was just pestering him like a gnat over the last many years. I believe in timing, as much as hard work and luck and all those intersections that are supposed to meet. Timing’s the big one. I think he was ready. I think he was excited.”
And what we pitched him, Reynolds added, “was enough of a divergence from the character that he knows and the character that he’s left behind, that it gives him something completely new to play and something that he’s really excited to do.”
Of course, Jackman’s return reprising his character has to be one of the greatest comebacks ever. The buzz of the movie is sky-high as Marvel Studios expects the movie to be a box office smasher.
Deadpool & Wolverine will hit the theaters on July 26.
